    1. Aaron

      Aaron

Ooh-er, the stratosphere has gone mainstream.

  3. Just used the 'Ignore' feature for the first time. Sorry, but I just can't stand any more grindingly predictable negativity from a small handful of posters.

    1. Jan

      Jan

I just wish the obvious newbies who havnt read the forum rules asking what time a model run is out in the MOD thread, doh search the site and learn!!

I feel really bad about blocking people, but I've just about had enough now. Can't be doing with it!

    1. I remember Atlantic 252

      I remember Atlantic 252

yeah and a record user number, was deep FI as well, never thought it would happen, if it was the pre mid 90's then yes

  8. Whisper it quietly, but today's rain might be the last many of us see for a week or longer.....

    1. TAFKAP

      TAFKAP

No rain for a week? It seems an impossible dream.

    2. Fozfoster

      Fozfoster

yeah with a bit of luck i can get out on my bike.

  9. Marks out of ten for December weather-wise? 7/10 for me, a rare ice day on December 13th plus some "interesting" Atlantic LP's since. Zero snow sadly.

    1. Thundery wintry showers

      Thundery wintry showers

4/10 from me- first half was cold and very sunny but promised much of the white stuff and delivered litle, mild grey damp second half here.

    2. Scorcher

      Scorcher

3/10 for me after a grim second half. The only positive has been the total lack of frost which has made my mornings more convenient

    3. Scorcher

      Scorcher

The Met Office will describe this month as 'close to average' temperature wise, interesting that while it has been sunnier than average it won't end up that far above- nearly all the sunshine was in the first half of the month.

  10. Being a Villa fan at the moment is a bit like being a snowy weather fan during a never-ending Bartlett winter.

    1. Bishop Brennan

      Bishop Brennan

Believe me, Villa are in far more of a mess than Liverpool are right now. I'd gladly swap places with them!

    2. Kain

      Kain

Yep, even though you beat us, I really feel for Villa :(

    3. Summer Sun

      Summer Sun

Villa beat Liverpool 3-1 then go and let in 15 goals in 3 games the way Villa are going there heading for the Championship

  11. Amongst the usual dross, there have actually been some exceptional posts so far this winter. Check out Snowking's contribution to the Model Discussion thread (post #865).

    1. Gord

      Gord

Couldn't agree more. Must have taken him some time to put that post together but it makes a very valid point loud and clear.

      Good solid post

  12. Really looking forward to seeing Comet Ison later next year - could be as spectacular as Comet Hale Bopp in 1996.

    1. AderynCoch

      AderynCoch

If it's even half as good as Hale-Bopp it will be spectacular.

    2. AderynCoch

      AderynCoch

By the way Hale-Bopp peaked in 1997. Hyakutake was in 1996.

    3. Aaron

      Aaron

I get tears in my eyes just thinking about Hape-Bopp, I thought we would never witness anything like that again, but here we are..

  13. Am I right in saying that the "model outputs are unreliable over xmas because of missing data" argument is just a myth? It gets aired every year without fail

    1. Scorcher

      Scorcher

      Wishful thinking perhaps!

    2. Summer Sun

      Summer Sun

Its only more unreliable when its not showing cold I bet this was never discussed in December 2010!

  14. Villa involved in an eight goal thriller at Stamford Bridge........

    1. PerfectStorm

      PerfectStorm

Shouldn't it be 'Chelsea involved in an eight goal thriller"? :p

    2. I remember Atlantic 252

      I remember Atlantic 252

should have been more than 8!

    3. Summer Sun

      Summer Sun

      Should of been 9-0 lol

  15. Was watching "An American Werewolf In London", but the heavy rain caused my Sky reception to go down! I'm guessing London and werewolves featured prominently?

    1. full_frontal_occlusion

      full_frontal_occlusion

Not really. Just a simile of a London bus, a cinema and the underground.

Good film though, well worth watching with ground breaking SFX copied in Michael Jacksons'Thriller video.

  16. I can barely see the outline of the British Isles on the latest radar images, due to all the rain. Rotten day.

  17. England winning in India, Villa winning at Liverpool, & Labour at 45% in the polls - life is good.

    1. Bristle boy

      Bristle boy

Voted Tory all my life but thinking of voting UKIP next time.

    2. Isolated Frost

      Isolated Frost

Couldn't dare consider voting for UKIP- a complete joke of a party running on the most basic of populist and divide/rule politics.

If Miliband got his act together, then Labour would be worth it, but he just appears to be another conservative puppet with a red tie.

    3. Bishop Brennan

      Bishop Brennan

We haven't had a genuinely centre-left govt in this country for 35+ yrs, just different shades of blue.

    2. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

      Lol

Also, If I was home in Devon the bus would be impossible to get to my nearest town (3 miles away) unless you wanted to spend 2 hours going into Exeter and back out. Not everyone lives in cities.

    3. Scorcher

      Scorcher

Agree and it depends on your job, as a supply teacher I can't possibly use buses as sometimes I don't know where I'm working at 8.30 am! Some people's jobs are reliant on their cars.

  20. So is a shortwave just another way of describing a LP system? I always thought shortwaves were kinks in the isobars?

To you Baldrick, the Renaissance was just something that happened to other people, wasn't it?

  23. What this forum needs is another 88/89 style winter, to dampen the expectations of certain posters

    1. Optimus Prime

      Optimus Prime

1999/2000 was the worst winter I can remember. The only snow was experienced in March and April, and they were brief non settlers.

    2. SouthPennine88

      SouthPennine88

Believe 06/07 was a virtual non event in the South though, hence the overall mild to it.

    3. Optimus Prime

      Optimus Prime

06/07 brought snow in borth January and February
