  1. Lovely scenes here in Solihull, everything covered with a few cms of the white stuff. The roads are a slushy nightmare though.

Judging by the radar it looks like we had snow up until about 05:30 in the morning.

Not too bothered about what happens/doesn't happen over the next few hours, tonight and tomorrow morning is of much more interest personally.

  2. The metogram for Knowle shows snow from Friday morning through to Saturday lunchtime, bar a spell of rain/sleet on Friday afternoon.

However, Stratford-upon-Avon and Worcester - not exactly a million miles away from here - are showing rain/sleet for pretty much for the entire duration.

    Brain-scramblingly marginal.

  3. Looking excellent for the W Midlands. Apart from the model output, experience from past events suggests to me this location along with N Wales will be in the firing line come the end of the week.

Not very often we see you posting in here TEITS, a visit from the NetWeather royalty good.gif

I sincerely hope you're correct about the West Midlands being in the "sweet spot".

  4. Did anybody else see the Channel 4 documentary earlier in the week?

I watched it this afternoon and the footage of both the fireball and boom are astounding. However while most of the science seems sound

and extremely interesting, I got annoyed in the final part where the discussion went to creation/dinosaur extinction rather than the whole

programme focussing on this once in 100 year occurence.

Yes, I caught it on 4oD the other day - lot's of fascinating unseen (by me, anyway) footage.

  5. No I would say 9c is the upper limit, the air is freezing only a few hundred metres up and snow can survive, while the sun is only heating the surface atmosphere really. In June 1975 it there was sleet and snow with maxima of 9 or 10c.

Wow I genuinely did not know that, I've learnt something new - thanks TonyH! good.gif

In fairness the temp is fluctuating a lot this afternoon, barely two minutes after my first post it had fallen to 6.3c

  6. Amazing fact - parts of the Scottish Highlands were actually FOUR times warmer today than the West Midlands!

Under sunny skies, a maximum temp of 13c was recorded in NW Scotland earlier whereas here in Solihull we managed a piffling 3.2c at lunchtime.

I wonder when the last time was that happened? Not a common occurrence for sure.
