    Another 2006?

Another 2006? This March sure feels like it at the moment, bitterly cold with snow fall as you can see. http://youtu.be/wmLBR2UY0uE But 2006 was the last of the good, "hot" summers in recent years so I am hoping this is a good omen as it turned out to be then. Fingers crossed.
  2. Just shot this about 30 mins ago, been like this all day here. Starts then escalates rapidly for 5 to 10 mins then it is back to blue skies again.
  3. Very light pellet like snow has been falling here for a while now causing a new dusting over cleared surfaces, though I don't expect it to amount to much.
  4. Left for Manchester around 5 as the left over system hit, scary over the tops in a RWD sports sedan with wide tires in blizzard conditions like that but yay I'm here. Much less snow down here and the roads are clear, amazing how much difference 1000 FT in altitude makes during events like this. Now for the big showers over the next 48 hours till I return, to be or not to be.
  5. I'm on the very edge of it and the rate of snow is slowly increasing, so it is moving but incredibly slowly.
  6. Seems to be some intensification of this band now it is pushing further in to the colder air, interesting. It is already beginning to fall here and I'm about 5 miles south of it, so in time yes.

  8. Main band is right at my door now, only a matter of time. There's already a few cm from last night on the ground so any extra is going to build up very fast.
  9. The main routes have been gritted so should remain clear, I'd avoid the side streets though as quite a lot of fine snow has built up.
  10. This slowing could be a good thing as it will be here much longer, if it can reach us then stall.. Result!
  11. Yeah based on its current speed and track it will probably be over Lancashire within the next couple of hours.
  12. Here we go, edge of the main system is starting to nudge in.
  13. Quite a lot has settled up here through the night and the main band isn't even here yet.
  14. Yes it will, south wales has a lot of low level areas hence the rain. It will turn increasingly to snow there even at low levels.
  15. That sounds like a forecast aimed entirely at low levels. Yeah probably, summer storm setup in reverse. Forcing because of the topography of Wales and the Pennines is probably another factor, something which could cause the main band to intensify further though that's wishful thinking most likely.
  16. Still snowing here too, this area doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Something must be feeding warmer air in to the cold air and preventing it from dissipating, though what that is I can only speculate on. Warm air drifting in from the gulf stream, heat rising from towns and cities, a feed from the approaching system or possibly a combination of all 3.
  17. Still snowing here with moderate flakes and that main band is now very close, these 2 areas are going to intersect.
  18. Calm before the storm. (If you can call that wind calm by any definition of the word)
  19. Larger flakes here now and it has begun to stick, roads and roofs already covered so the moisture levels in the air must be increasing.
  20. Continental type snow seems to be what we are all seeing then from the sounds of things, icy snow that blows around like sand because there is not enough moisture for it to stick.
