I'll be happy just see some snow falling, I love watching the snow fall in front of the lampost, it's therapeutic. Sad I know

its not sad at all! i have a webcam in the back yard that i keep staring at!

I honestly don't think this is over for the Midlands yet. I don't expect places to see 4 inches+ of snow but some parts could see 5-10cm. Probably more towards the South Midlands now but I still expect Birmingham, Leicester, Warwickhire and Northamptonshire to see an inch or 2 from it.

    i agree

  3. so chaps, I've been a 'lurker' since joining in november 2010, and purely by chance when the most glorious modelled charts unfolded before the memorable December 2010! and ironically i decide to post something some 8+ years later when i see I'm the only member logged in! so what's changed when there were 100s of members only the last few days when i had to scroll through post after post?! i'll tell you what's changed, just a slight trend/direction (possible anomaly, but no doubt likely attributed to the direction of the jet stream - as flagged by the MO in recent tweets) that the models have picked up on all of a sudden that deviates from the direction that we were all set on heading - i.e. sustained cold and guaranteed chances of snow - as we interpreted it. granted, very disappointing to see. so this is a NUDGE to all - lets not forget, it's only late January and all the drivers (telecommunications) have not changed - they remain the same as eloquently explained by the likes of @chionomaniac and @Catacol to name a few (and apologies for omitting others) (and a big acknowledgment to all those for their knowledgeable an positive posts) - and lets not forget that big players such as the jet stream can all of a sudden take a more favourable route that then resumes our route to cold. lets resume optimism

  4. Heavy(ish)  even my undersoil heating in the back garden is becoming ineffectual... :yahoo:

are you serious about your garden heating? the irony

Blizzard of dandruff this is, lots of micro bits n pieces

    beats dry which was forecast

  5. Nice little covering here now and snowing quite heavily currently.

Radar shows the snow area has grown over the central midlands in the last 2 hrs and getting further west.Should be west of Birmingham soon.

A lot of it is fairly light but it is settling readily.

Uppers around -7c,dews -4 or -5c and air temp still around 0c so looking good.

all sounds beautiful, sorry enthusiasm getting the better of me this evening. this is what happens when things crop up out of the blue

  7. Slightly off topic but I hope someone can answer me.

Why does snow always melt on roads first ? I understand if it's a busy road, lots of cars driving over the top pumping hot exhaust gases all over it etc. But my main road has about one car every 10 minutes, and yet the effect is still much the same. Surely one lone car every 10 minutes can not impart enough heat in the fraction of a second that it covers each part of the road to make snow melt ?

    salt plays a big role
