Moderate rain here, the main bulk of precipitation still to hit here. As I say that, a flash to my south!
-
Distant thunder here. The Sheffield shield better not ruin our chances too!
-
We look nailed on to get a hit from somewhere but this tension isn't nice!
-
I'm just waiting for this storm to weaken or change direction completely just as it gets here. This is how three years of storm watching has jaded me, I can't imagine what it's like for those with more experience!
-
That beast is heading for us!
As long as it doesn't die. From past experiences I've learned not to trust the radar until storms actually hit here.
-
I'm trying not to get my hopes up but I can't help it!
-
I can hear distant rumbles of thunder but everything is going east of here.

I enjoy all four seasons for different reasons. However, Summer is my favourite. I love sun and warmth, and there's also the added extra of thunderstorms.
Depending on the actual weather, either Spring, Autumn or Winter can be my least favourite. A snowy, cold Winter would rank ahead of a dull, cloudy Spring, but a sunny and warm Spring would beat a snowless Winter.
-
It didn't head south from here, more E/ESE I'd say. I thought you would have heard the thunder though?
Nah I didn't hear anything, on Rain Today it looked as if it was heading this way but now we're just under moderate rainfall. Oh well.

Patiently awaiting this storm arriving...

Like a few have already said today's storm was excellent. Almost constant thunder and the heaviest rainfall I've ever witnessed, my garden is still flooded. It looks like there's a chance there could be more tomorrow, too.

Lots of sun, warmth, and thunderstorms. A perfect summer for me.

Snow here! There's little chance of anything settling as the ground is soaked from the rain, but it's a nice way to kick off the season!
-
Things are getting very gusty here now. There are brief calm interludes and then things go crazy for a while.
-
Not really getting going here gusts mostly in the 30's.
Same here, I'm guessing the Sheffield shield has doomed our area again. :/
-
Looking forward to some decent gusts, they're quite rare here seeing as we're sheltered by the Pennines.

Hoping the Pennines don't shield us from any strong winds here, I'm struggling to remember the last time we got a gust above 45mph or so in this part of the world.
-
For many of us further north who got absolutely nothing from today's storm, something interesting this weekend wouldn't go amiss, at least in my opinion. I don't think we had a gust over 30mph here.

Wow, just had a very good storm here. The thunder died down half way through but that must have been the heaviest rain I've ever seen!
-
can confirm loud thunder in Matlock, echoing down the valley,
Looks like it's heading this way too!

Thinking back to last winter, we had the first decent snowy breakdown of a cold spell for a while here on that Friday night of 25th January 2013. That was a feature that was lacking in those winters of 2008-09 to 2010-11.
That actually brought quite a lot of snow here, with some of the largest flakes I'd ever seen. You could see the shadows of the flakes from the lamp posts through the curtains.
-
I am as long as this winter isn't dominated by dry, cloudy days. My first preference would be for snow and cold, but if not gales would be preferable to boring 'nothing weather'.

Front beginning to decay rapidly now. Surprised how much it's weakened in the last ten minutes.
It's obviously the Sheffield shield, now back up to full strength after needing to recharge after summer.
-
Hopefully things will pick up soon here, a gust of 34mph so far but that's it.

Fantastic storm here, it had everything!
