  1. Excellent update, cheers Steve!

A lot of people in the NW thread are reporting freezing rain. Literally the rain is freezing instantly into ice and some guys are saying icicles are forming on their car and windowsills etc. People up there are reporting sub zero air temps and dew points, but there is obviously a wedge of cold air at the surface with milder air aloft. As there is still a mild sector in the NW (fronts haven't occluded yet) I don't think that will be a problem here and the vast majority of us should see an all snow event, as the front will be occluded once it reaches here, eradicating the mild sector.

Well if thats the case it could bring the power lines down, not good.

  2. Your on the right side of the Estuary so you should be fine, but for SW facing coasts they will have an onshore wind which, further east (say Southend coast and NE from there) will mean a fairly large time over water which means temperatures are raised just a little. At first that won't make miuch difference but as things get slightly more marginal as time goes by that may tip the coastal strip the wrong side of marginal.

Looking at it I may just be far enough west this time round to get away with it as we have SW winds ahead of the frontal system, but even then it could still be marginal towards the end for me.

Paul- Yeah I was thinking that it doesn't seem to be a common set-up, but then again it is quite a rare synoptic set-up, we never normally have a front coming in with a angle tilted this way, normally they are titled so the wind comes in from the SE. SW winds will give less water fetch which may well make a difference locally. Still I agree with your totals, don't think its going to a massive event locally, but some parts to our north/NW will do very well I suspect.

Okay, Thank you for the reply, Hopefully we all end up with just snow.

  3. Right guys the NMM now goes out to 48hrs on its 00z run and the news is GOOD from it.

Snow arriving between 7-9pm (though I think its a couple of hours too fast!) and still going strong across our whole area by midnight.

Ever so slightly marginal maybe on south facing coast on the Esturary so myself and Paul may not see quite as much snow as places further inland and west but should still see settling snow.

Why is it marginal on the estuary? I am on the estuary too and not far from your location, sorry if the answer is obvious i am new to this :)

I've never seen an orange (heavy) area for the South before and this is very encouraging:
