just to calm any fears anyone has, the 18z GFS is showing pretty much whats on the radar. don't take the snowfall charts as gospel- they are just an estimation and don't really take into account streamers etc. temps are forecast as staying just above freezing for much of the region (although some are reporting minus figures which is good) until about midnight, when the s-easterly picks up and knocks the temps down. DP's are below zero. (its 1.8c DP -1.6c, higher than some, here at the moment and snowing lightly) so no worries about marginality. the Meto have been pretty much spot on (at short range at least) lately and they have amber warnings out for us! so far, its looking good. everything on target, game on!- 877 replies

very light snow here in horsham, temp 1.6c DP -2.0c........
-
the gritters might face added problems......
-
i'm hoping to wake up with 12 inches in the morning. sadly i think it will still be the same size...

i'm in the amber warning now!
-
i'd say stays the same or moves slightly west but thats not in the options!

we dont want that! that would put us in a south-westerly flow.- cold but only northern parts of the country might see snow, we would just get rain. -

i think its a 'kink' in the airflow which seems to have created a kind of 'eddy current'. maybe the winds are moving a little faster than forecast you can see it on the wind charts- -

interesting little feature in the north sea at the moment- http://www.sat24.com/gb almost looks like a small LP system. or a mini hurricane! lol -
as steve says, we need temperatures to drop. as john says, they could well do as the north-easterlies kick in. timing is crucial, nothing is guaranteed. but.... fingers crossed.....
