  1. Yes C, After looking at the overnight model runs it's certainly looking poor for any real cold here in the UK over the next week or so, Maybe mid Feb/ March will deliver..
  2. A snow shower has just started here, sky gone every dark. Temp 2.6c Dp 1.2c. Edit; that soon blew through..
  3. Colder air should start pushing through now, Temp 4.5c.
  4. There's time yet for colder air later.. Temp here 3.8c Dp 3.1c, N,E 14mph. a mix of rain and sleet so far.
  5. Rain has turned heavy and a little sleety now here.. Temp 2.4c
  6. A dull wet morning here with light rain, Temp 2.2c Hopefully things may get a little more interesting later, after the main band of rain has pushed through bringing colder air with it.
  7. That is for the South "London" the warmest part of the UK and it is showing below average out till the 7th, Then were into real Fantasy World big time.. Plenty of now casting in these set-ups so don't take charts at face value. A classic Wintry week coming up, with lot's of now casting ! And no Charts or posters have predicted anything spectacular...
  8. There are many a Forecaster with Mild bias, we all know who they are,.. one ends in Bett ! But then again it has to turn a "little colder" before we get "very cold" does it not ? Hammond is our man
  9. Yes just heard that myself Karl.. NMM Chart here to show Snow potential Sunday morning.
  10. Yes Winter is coming as you say GLTW. Monday Peak District. Cold with the likelihood of heavy rain or showers through the day, falling as snow at altitude. Some significant snowfall likely above 200-300m with some temporary falls to lower levels possible too. This risk is mainly during the early morning, with a chance that freezing levels will rise during the day for a time, but with rain or sleet continuing. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/mountain-forecasts/peak-district#?tab=mountainWeather
  11. Tomorrow could see something with more of a wintry note.. For the Peak District. "Dry and frosty during the small hours of Sunday, with ice developing in places. Cloud will thicken quickly through the morning with southerly winds strengthening considerably ahead of another band of very heavy rain moving west to east across the area, perhaps preceded by some transient snow over highest peaks late morning. Brighter late afternoon but very windy with potential storm-force westerly gusts over peaks and scattered heavy sleet and snow showers, with snow likely to accumulate." And Monday is even better... Monday Cold with the likelihood of heavy rain or showers through the day, falling as snow at altitude. Some significant snowfall likely above 200-300m with some temporary falls to lower levels possible too. 12. Notion of an 'event horizon', from which nothing can escape, is incompatible with quantum theory, physicist claims. Most physicists foolhardy enough to write a paper claiming that “there are no black holes†— at least not in the sense we usually imagine — would probably be dismissed as cranks. But when the call to redefine these cosmic crunchers comes from Stephen Hawking, it’s worth taking notice. In a paper posted online, the physicist, based at the University of Cambridge, UK, and one of the creators of modern black-hole theory, does away with the notion of an event horizon, the invisible boundary thought to shroud every black hole, beyond which nothing, not even light, can escape.http://www.nature.com/news/stephen-hawking-there-are-no-black-holes-1.14583
  13. Yes agree, As Fergie said yesterday regarding back to Westerly/Zonal, it's not going to be back to mild Westerly in fact far from it. A N/W flow in Jan/Feb is not mild by any means. Ice/snow/bitter winds i would expect.
  14. Snow cover melted away by 11am, It's now very dull with heavy drizzle, Temp 3.2c
  15. Some very snowy charts this morning with the block holding on strong, I have woken to snow cover this morning which is nice to see, lot's of surprise falls over the next week as Winter gathers momentum. As has been said, will be nice to see the Meto update today fall in line with the output, It has been fascinating watching this unfold with such uncertainty, hopefully next week we will see plenty of surprise Snowfalls in many areas.
  16. Yes was expecting the band of rain to clear the snow cover last night, as you say has pushed much further South than was expected.
  17. Snow cover still remains here, around 90% after an frost. Temp 0.7c
  18. I hope everyone sees some snow cover Bish, obviously elevation helps, but even lower levels can see some good snowfalls to. Thin cover of snow has now frozen. Temp -0.1c Dp 0.5c Wind chill -2.2c
  19. Yes, we should hopefully do well out of this set-up, especially next week, it can bring some big falls of snow round here.
