  1. Thanks Firfly, As you say with the best snow cover in the Highlands for 20yrs we should be in for a good season.
  2. I tried not to laugh... All due respect for the work they do.
  3. A much calmer morning here, with the odd sunny spell and light winds, going to make the most of it later ! Temp 3.4c Look at this beast coming.
  4. Wind starting to pick up here, still dry with odd sunny spell but clouds thickening and getting darker. An interesting afternoon coming up.. showers will spread in during the afternoon. Showers will be wintry at times, particularly over the summits, and possibly heavy with a risk of localised hail and lightning. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/mountain-forecasts/peak-district#?tab=mountainWeather Temp 1.9c Dp 0.3c Wind Chill 0.0c N/E 12mph Gusting 32mph
  5. INCOMING CME, CHANCE OF STORMS: Big sunspot AR1967 is crackling with solar flares and hurling CMEs into space. The biggest CME so far was propelled away from the sun on Jan. 30th by an M6-class explosion in the sunspot's magnetic canopy. It is expected to reach Earth on Feb. 2nd: http://www.spaceweather.com/

  12. OLD SUNSPOT RETURNS, SOLAR ACTIVTITY INCREASES: Crackling with solar flares, a large sunspot is emerging over the sun's southeactive limb. It appears to be AR1944, returning after a two-week trip around the farside of the sun.http://www.spaceweather.com/
  13. Snow has now fallen 5 times here, with one fall lasting overnight.
  14. And that chart CS posted is just out of the foreseeable in imo, let's see where we end up after this deep low has swung through during the weekend, the weather is not written on the wall by no means that far out. Im not hunting for Cold and im not expecting a deep freeze any time soon, just being realistic. anything can happen 6/7 days out, this is standard stuff ! be it summer or Winter.
  15. Exactly rjbw, after reading all the winters over posts this morning i was amazed, the weather will do what it wants no matter what the models show and there is plenty of time left for a change in the Northern Hemisphere, and with Feb being the month were the Atlantic traditionaly runs out of steam theres plenty to play for, lots of interest in the models in the coming days with yet more stormy weather on the way, but nothing mild in the reliable timeframe, lots of snow for the Highlands and maybe some wintry surprises for the Midlands North over the next week... Nothing boring thats for sure.
  16. A blustery wet morning here, A very heavy shower with sleet has just subsided, Temp 2.8c, Dp 2.2c, Wind Chill 2.7c.
  17. I nearly got hit that day while getting into the car, only striking a tree 100 or so yards away, i thought my time was up !
  18. A mostly dry day here with the odd spot of rain, but nothing to wet the ground any more than it is so..Currently 3.8cDp 2.6cWind Chill 3.6c I have a feeling we could be in for another cold Spring, just a feeling mind...
  19. After a drive round this morning it does look like we had a slight covering of snow during the early hours as there were the odd patch still remaining here and there, all gone now and rain has eased.
