  1. Thunderstorms from late afternoon across the northernmost Pennines and northward into the Scottish Highlands and moving east according to the BBC's forecasts on the telly this evening. Torrential rain, flooding even the word 'viscous' used. GFS doesn't agree. Hmmmmm.
  2. Considering all forecasts/predictions have been completely and utterly useless since 2007 - reporting such 'guesses' has turned into quite an entertaining sport, and should certainly be treated with caution.
  3. Solar Storms Building Toward Peak in 2013, NASA Predicts http://www.space.com/12586-solar-storms-intensity-2013-peak-nasa.html
  4. Fickle is probably a better word ogtb! The lingering twilight didn't help either probably. Was good fun nevertheless - plenty of star spotting in the summer sky.
  5. Just back from spending a couple of hours above Gullane beach, East Lothian looking north over the North Sea (ie no light pollution) and with 25% cloud. Absolutely no sign of aurora.
  6. Thanks to John Pike for the following link: http://www.solarham.com/
  7. Intense solar flare erupts from the sun: http://www.space.com/12507-powerful-solar-flare-sun-storm-auroras.html
  8. Lightning showing-up between Hexham and Haltwhistle in the northern Pennines - first of the day. Probably just OON with his pixie dust.
  9. I've opened this thread as there's forecasts about tomorrow with percentage chances of storms beyond 50%. Hope the chaps above don't object to starting-off the thread
  10. Report on the Nat Geo website about this year's show: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2011/07/110725-double-meteor-shower-sky-show-space-science-perseid-aquarid/ So a full moon at the Perseid peak, but the tail-end of the lesser-known Delta Aquarids could make for some spectacular night sky action.
  11. BBC forecast at 09:27 was positively enthusiastic about northern England's storm potential - to the north and east of Leeds. "30-40mm of rain in torrential thundery downpours" was the expression used.
  12. Fresh thread for Monday. Several areas in the storm risk category...
  13. It's all happening in Perth: http://www.bbc.co.uk...entral-14174637 Cracking lightning looking south from Leith. It's coming your way sammie :gulp:
  14. Aye - another Saturday and another thunderstorm. Spectacular skies sammie.
  15. Just had what looked like a Red Admiral fly into the flat and out again 90 seconds later. Think she enjoyed it.
  16. Tomasz has been tweeting about the show for the last month - travelling round the UK filming. Promises to be very interesting, and pleasant to watch too.
  17. Lovely day here after 11am - warm and sunny,
  18. Current measurements show a KP Index of only 3 - visible from the Faroe Islands, so we're not missing much!
  19. 13ºC, slate grey skies, a sw'ly breeze and drizzle.
