  1. Wet sleety cold rain. And to think my 19th air frost last night was the coldest of the season so far at -4.4°C.
  2. Looking on jealously to our northern pals - here in the Borders it's been a stunning cold sunny day. Trip to the Fort above Innerleithen: 17th air frost at - 2.4°C and a maximum earlier of 0.4°C.
  3. Not so happy a start to the new year here as the water is off - argh! Gasping on a pint of cold water to bathe my fluffy hungover throat. Leak at Carlops according to tweets. Rainwater in buckets for the loo. Nice. Anyway HNY everyone
  4. 0.0°C in the early hours so no air frost but a good 4°C lower than forecast. Double digits this afternoon after the rain. Was over by @mardatha's gaff. Up to the Waterloo monument by Ancrum: Dry by the time we set off from the Visitor Centre and bloody windy at the top!
  5. Quite a gloomy day max of 6.2°C. Late afternoon walk up to 400m, turn a corner in the forest and it's clearing from the north. Pretty.
  6. Min was 0.4C so 1.4C out = 4 points Max was 1.8C so 0.2C out = 5 points Morning cloud/sunny = 3 points Afternoon cloud/sunny = 0 points x 1.4 Total 16.8
  7. Merry Christmas to my fellow thread friends - hope everyone has a smashing day tomorrow and maybe a flake in the wind... Yellow snow Boxing Day so no eating.
  8. A cold winter's day. Although no overnight air frost last night, it did get down to 0.1C, rose to 1.0C and now in the gloomy fog it's already -0.1C this evening. Bitter. Heating on all day.
  9. Back below freezing again and that fog is thicker than a trumpeter's lips.
  10. Quick reminder that if you want to enter the Xmas Day weather forecasting competition - you've got until midnight tonight!
  11. Similar stuff here - beautiful winter's day after my thirteenth air frost at -1.3C. And that's tonight's full moon peeping up! Good luck from me to both @JamesM and @Puffy MacCloud who've been under the weather.
  12. Going to get my entry in tonight to get the maximum multiplier: -1°C 2°C Cloudy morning sunny intervals Shower of graupel in the afternoon

  14. I have started a wee weather competition in another thread (yes we can have multiple Scottish threads now!) - go take a look if you fancy a bit of fun:
  15. Had a daft idea - let's run a wee competition to see what we think Christmas Day might look and feel like in our locations. Remember we have a member map to have a nosey where many of us live! CLOSING DATE 23:59 Sat 18 Dec - so one week before the big day. Measurements Min Temp Max Temp Morning (00:00 - 12:00) weather type Afternoon (12:00 - 00:00) weather type Scoring: Multiplier on taking a risk with an early submission: Weds or Thurs x 1.4, Fri x 1.2 Temp - difference between entry and actual within 1c 5 points, within 2C 4 points, within 3C 2 points within 5C 0.5 points. Weather types - right or wrong (3 points twice) So theoretically (5+5+3+3)*1.4 is possible with a max of 22.4. Completely self-scored/evaluated, so please no cheating and enter in the spirit of the most important aspect - having a bit of fun!
  16. Temp never got lower than 1.0°C and now crawling back up again, so nothing has settled at my height asl. That despite big flakes coming down in sheets/curtains of snow in the wind. As others have said a horrible horrible day. EDIT - now that the heavy snow has passed I can see from across the valley that we do have snow on windward slopes at my height asl, but not on this sheltered side. Just shows how marginal it has been - intensity winning over air temp.
  17. It's a wee bit blowy and that's my location protected by a 450m hill to the west. Big chunky snow blowing about at 90°. Now 1.1°C.
  18. 0.8C now and the world outside has turned white. Time to take the dog down to the Tweed and brace against the slush!
  19. Heavy snow here now too. 1.3°C and continuing to drop. Got to get my booster in Peebles later!
  20. The heavy sleety stuff not quite here yet but slizzle is on. 2.1°C and falling slowly. Not sure what's going to happen...
  21. Moderate snow and -0.2°C. Didn't get above 0.1°C today so far, so adding nicely to the existing piles of 1cm of snow! Third snow day, but first time I've seen snow falling.
