  1. Derecho The energy those storms are using is from higher in the atmosphere away from the cold north Sea. The surface conditions will have little or no effect on the storms.
  2. Seems like the North York Moors has helped a storm fire.
  3. weatherobsuk Yeah that's quite a lot of hours driving quieter roads at that time too. A few more storms for northern areas today. good luck if you out today.
  4. weatherobsuk At least you saw something, but those north east winds that setup when low pressure is to the south, usually drag in the fractus from the cool sea to hide the lightning. Sometimes the view behind the storms as they clear north is better because the surface flow changes to south or south west, and the visibility improves. The NLC are fascinating, but I never really saw any before 2015, seem to be more common lately.
  5. weatherobsuk Hello Did you see much lightning on your chase south? Or pickup any Aurora last night?
  6. Seeing lightning two nights in a row, although it's about 50 miles away.
  7. Southern Storm Great shot Was this in Elmer West Sussex? A house got stuck there. UK weather: Trains delayed and care home hit by lightning after overnight thunderstorms NEWS.SKY.COM Overnight a care home in West Sussex was hit by a lightning strike and a university building in Chichester sustained damage to its roof and power system.
  8. Southern England is the lightning hotspot for Europe tonight. Lightning & Thunderstorms - Europe WWW.BLITZORTUNG.ORG Blitzortung.org provides lightning and thunderstorm information in real-time on maps for USA, United Kingdom, Australia, new Zealand, Europa, Africa, Asia and other Countries.
  9. Eagle Eye that north Sea clag? Same here I've seen several distant flashes earlier off Essex coast, but it's fully cloudy now.
  10. Mitch the motorbike storm Probably North Sea fret or mist , always turns up when the surface wind is East or North East.
  11. Mitch the motorbike storm That's in the North Sea headed for north Kent/Thames estuary.
  12. Bolt From Blue Late summer is slightly better as the sea is a bit warme. Really need a South East surface wind so the fetch over the sea is shorter then doesn't cool so much to produce the clag.
  13. Bolt From Blue The North Sea has scuppered many a lightning show with it's low clouds. I don't know for sure, but perhaps most activity will be London southwards/ westward. I hope you get something though.
