  1. Hi All, I think my excitement level has just shifted into 3rd gear. It is beginning to look as though here in 'No Mans Shires' we may expect some appreciable white stuff in the next week. Further East will get more but we should get some anyway. tara4now tringaling
  2. Hi all, All in all looks like an interesting week to come. Perhaps the return of the cold part 3? Maybe some white stuff even for no mans shires too. tara4now Yringaling
  3. Thank you SnowAngel. I have not actually noticed a major influx of Gulls around here or on the Tring Reservoirs, just the usual amounts, but a few more Red kites in the area. I understand your thoughts on berries and nuts however I am reliably informed that it can only mean there had been good weather at pollination time and can not be relied on for forecasting cold winters. In fact 2 years ago the Hawthorns were full of berries and we had a very poor winter for cold/snow. However I do believe that some weather lore must be correct otherwise why would it be passed on down the ages? Think it will be plain miserable here weather wise for next few days and I just hope that FI forecast hold some water......er......I mean snow ... for us in about 10 days time. tara4now Tringaling
  4. Hi all, Reckon that Wednesday will be rain/sleet then snow for a while before returning back to rain unfortunately, although I am often wrong. I can not see a return to real cold conditions for some while yet and probably not too long lasting either. However the set up is very interesting and confidence in any forecast more than 4 days off is low. tara4now Tringaling
  5. Hi all, Deadly quiet on here today! Is it because all our snow has gone? Not even any comments on what the models are, or not, showing in relation to our 'no mans shires'. Mayhap we'll have a short lived snow event this week........mayhap we won't....but interesting none the less. I think we'll have a couple of frosts as well and it is cold/mild as opposed to the mild/mild we have grown accustomed to in recent years. All in all a cold winter so far and the possibility of it continuing to be so in due course. Not even any real comments on the Seagull revelation of 'TEITS'!!!!! As an ornithologist I would like to know a little more on this....does anyone else know this Seagull weather lore? or any other weather lore relating to animals and birds?(except for the very discredited cows lying down forecasting rain ). tara4now Tringaling
  6. GREAT ta muchly......good to see that Mods on here have some compassion . OR they've seen the discussions on the model threads and had second thoughts about return of cold weather!!! tara4now Tringaling
  7. Hi all, Yes tis a great shame that we in 'no mans shires' will lose our thread. Have learned a lot in the few days I've been on this site. Still I reckon next week may get a little interesting with a possible ressurection of the thread. Perhaps we may ask for a 'Thorm' thread in the months to come so we can follow the lightning tara4now Tringaling
  8. Thank you Bb. It will never be easy due to the generally maritime nature of British weather and forecasting snow, where a minute change in temperature can make all the difference, is twice as bad. Thats why its more fun. Pit your wits, some knowledge(often local) and quite often a hunch against the scientific, massively computerised 'proffesionals and sometimes you beat them.....sometimes you don't. tara4now Tringaling
  9. Hi all, Very disappointing.........so far....today but with British weather you never know too far in advance. Always treat Met Off. early warnings with some contempt and as for BBC Weather they just cover their rear end after Mr Fish made his 'faux pas' some years ago. Therefore have done my own 'Weather thinking' for years. My own thoughts for this coming week as follows; Looking at some of the models produced recently it certainly looks like turning somewhat less cold with a general thaw. The Atlantic Weather is going to make a good attempt at re-asserting itself over Tuesday and Wednesday but at this stage it is very uncertain as to its progress. Therefore some areas could get a decent snowfall before it turns to rain from the west, however I suspect it will stall and eventually be pushed back so it depends how far East it manages to get as to whom gets this snow. Probably colder again next weekend. As stated this is only my own thoughts and forecast on data I've seen today and confidence is not good beyond Wednesday. Lastly please do not shoot the messenger if I am proved totally wrong......it happens with our weather tara4now Tringaling
  10. Hi All, Is it me but there appears to be a slight change in the direction the showers are taking ie a touch more East in the wind direction. Was expecting shower near Wisbech to head my way....eventually... but now near P/boro. Never mind will have to watch the Swaffam one instead. tara4now Tringaling
  11. hi all, Always thought that North and mid Bucks with West Herts and South West Beds were in a no-mans land with weather forecasters. We dont fit in with London and SE, nor E Anglia, or even worse South Central which relates more to Southampton!!!. We are not really covered by ITV Meridian either but then ITV weather forecasts are worse than useless. tara4now Tringaling
  12. Hi all, Thank you Chilly Milly. Looking at radar have a big shower just E of concrete cows seemingly heading my way. There are loads developing in the N Sea and The Wash also heading towards us so may have little more to talk about later. Tara4now Tringaling
  13. Hi all, First post on this site so please don't flame me. Here some 4 miles north of Tring there is about 4ins of lying snow. Had a shower this am but nothing since. Seems likely, from synopsis charts, that we will be Northern edge of the Weekend event therefore maybe additional 1 inch. Some debate over possible snow event mid-week but this may herald warmer temperatures for a while. There seems to be very low confidence in any forecast more than 2 - 3 days in advance however and warmer air may slide south into France.....hopefully! Looking at various threads there are better meteorologists on here than me so perhaps they can comment further . tara4now tringaling
