  1. William That gives 36mm/hr - close to what we had in Sidmouth. I think you might have got the decimal point wrong in your earlier post? Looking at the rain radar trace for your area yesterday it was clearly a beauty - elongated intense rain along the line of the storms path so it must have lingered a while. I see Exeter got hit badly as well.
  2. William, That is a huge figure, how long did it last at that rate and do you know what the total rainfall was? I was down at Sidmouth a few years back when they had major flooding following a cloudburst, but that was no more than about 30mm / hour and maybe 50mm/hr peak.
  3. The warning actually came out shortly after we had a heavy thunderstorm here and it has been raining on and off since. Looking at the radar there was another storm just to the west of Dorchester at about the same time.
  4. Yes, a fabulous crisp, sunny morning. Time to 'get doing'!
  5. Clear starry night sky sky with bright sun first thing, but 8/8 AS has now drifted in.
  6. You could well be right. I have just got back from walking in the forest with a view over the Ridgeway between Wool and Weymouth. Dense black cloud along and above the Ridgeway with a clear bright band below the cloud looking out seawards. In silouette below the cloud was what looked very much like a funnel cloud - quite impressive, it was there for probably half a minute before lifting upwards very quickly. It will be interesting to hear if anything was seen in the Broadmayne / Osmington / Preston area. I wish I had taken my camera with me!
  7. Its strange, the sky is relatively bright (even the odd speck of blue) but it continues to tip down. It has eased a bit now to normal heavy rain. Hopefully this band will clear and I can get the dogs out for their exercise! I wish my weather station was still working but that gave up the ghost a couple of years back - I wont get another unless it is made of robust material - the plastic failed on the old one (not UV protected). I suspect we have had near;y 50mm over the two days but I might be under estimating a bit at that.
  8. We have had light to moderate rain on and off all morning. In the past 15 minutes it has turned positively monsoon-like with torrential rain and no wind. True 'stair rods' stuff with gutters overflowing all round.feeling both for the poor Dorset campers on the bank holiday week, for exhibitors setting up for the Great Dorset Steam Fair (mudbath?) and for any farmers who still have crops awaiting harvest.
  9. Did you not catch that storm late this morning? Torrential at East Knighton at about 11:30 and the cloud had what looked like a bit of a funnel below it off one edge ( I only saw the tail edge of the cloud so cannot be sure if it had been a true funnel) It looked very black towards Wareham / Corfe
  10. I was visiting friends near Windsor at the weekend and took this photo at White Waltham 'Retrofest' as the front moved through accompanied by the expected squall. https://forum.netweather.tv/gallery/image/20254-/

  13. Yes, but less humid and with a light breeze inland so a good 'doing' day. Driving past Lyme Regis the sea looked calm with loads of boaters out there enjoying the sun.
  14. After just the odd drip of rain yesterday we have just had a belt of torrential rain pass through for the past hour - monsoon-like vertical stair rods. Ironically this one had no Met Office severe weather alert associated, whereas most recent alerts have come to nothing in this location! Looking at the radar we have another short pulse to follow in about an hours time and then might get a half decent day. The lawn is already looking better for its drenching!
  15. Rain now stopped and getting brighter - nothing showing on the radar so time to give the dogs a walk!
  16. Hi Mapantz - that one down your way developed really quickly! What is your rainfall total for today so far? We have just had another torrential downpour for about 20 mins and still the stream keeps coming off Northern France Looking at the radar reminds me of bubbles rising from the bottom of a champagne glass ( or perhaps that should be cider given the origins being nearer to the French Coast LoL).
  17. Looking at the radar there is plenty more streaming across the English Channel towards us! http://meteox.com/gmapstatic.aspx?zoom=7&type=zoom&x=134&y=337 Met office severe weather advice a is a bit muddled, the map currently shows amber warning for rain across central /western parts but latest warning for today is yellow
  18. Flashes of lightning and real crackling thunder shooting across the sky right overhead, no appreciable rain with it and not particularly dark
  19. Yes a stunning night with lightning flashes coming at between 3 and 5 second intervals at one point (that is between flashes not between flash and bang). Still plenty of thunder rolling around but further away now (no lightning)
  20. I agree, we had friends staying in Weymouth this weekend and totally changed our plans for this evening due to adverse weather forecast. What a shame as it is Weymouth Food Fest weekend - it will undoubtedly have damaged their trade unnecessarily. The weather forecast seems more like a nowcast, presumably met office will do a post match review' and it would be really interesting to know what changes occurred to result in quite dramatic difference in precipitation from that forecast.
  21. I heard the wreckers had been out at the weekend trying to draw ships onto the Old Harry Rock! 4lb doggy a good one, getting on to Bull Huss size. No bass showing?
  22. Just started to tip it down here - what an irony, first day of Glasto and it rains for the first time in weeks!
  23. Slightly murky overcast first thing but cloud has now burned off leaving scattered cumulus drifting through on the refreshing NE breeze. Another cracking day!
  24. Watching the radar with interest - a band of heavy stuff creeping up the Channel but will it weaken as it comes ashore? Hopefully not!
