  1. The sustained winds seem a little weaker than earlier in the week, (but not by a lot IMO) but the gusts seem to be really picking up now! This is a surprise as I thought this one was supposedly a notch or two down from Monday?
  2. Right...too many beers....can't keep the peepers open too much longer! Nite all and stay safe, lets hope this blows itself out asap! (and the one for friday buggers off elsewhere!!)
  3. Yes, the wind is bad enough...the rain is not helping at all ! Hope you, PP & all other's affected by this evenings events get back to normal as soon as you can after this has passed.
  4. Thanks John....not good! Gonna charge my phone for 10 mins as lights are flickering madly now, may need to go mobile soon!
  5. Ever wish you hadn't started someting? We are all friends on here.....we get it...its your interpretation...(even though you're wrong)
  6. I was out in the Oct 87 storm and agree entirely....although this one looks like packing a punch of its own! :-)
  7. I think it must have been topography maybe as now it is starting to howl and the rain is banging the windows! Dont think I will be venturing out again now!
  8. It might be where I am, but just been out for a walk, breezy, yes...gusty (a little) but nothing different from an autumn day? Very little rain as well?? I'm not going to complain as some are getting battered by the sounds of it. I did think we were going to get hammered here...maybe its lulling me into a false sense of security?
  9. Yes, probably the only advice to give (unless he books into a hotel for the night and travells back tomorrow), if he's going to give it a go, best to do it sooner than later.
  10. I agree with you all, this must be the worst weather type.....lets hope it all blows through as quickly as possible and the gust strengths are weaker than forecast...could do without this, especially at this time of year. Horrible to hear of loss of life already If its not too windy where you are, make sure all garden items are tied up or put out of the winds way (if you have the space), that way you wont have to worry if things start blowing around outside which can make the wind sound more frightening/intense. And plan ahead, ie know where your candles and torches are should the power go out (which hopefully it wont!). Goodies in fridges and freezers should keep for upto 8 hours with no power as long as you keep the doors shut. And remember, our houses over here in the UK are generally made of quite stern stuff and although these wind events are rare, chances are your house has been through a few of these over the years (or will have been built to a standard if a new home that should withstand the winds.) Stay safe everyone.
  11. Judging by the News24 graphic's about 5 mins ago, its between midnight and 2pm for my area with gusts of upto 80mph. Its certainly going to be a wild old night out there I think
  12. Agreed, it certainly is anticipated to be a deep low, for the more experience of you on here (which is probably 99% compared to me) is it now pretty much nailed on in relation to the expected track of the incoming system and the central pressure or do we think it still has the time time/ability to spring a surprise or two (all be it good or bad?)
  13. I think the post you read was probably a bit of scaremongering - yes it will be a period of sustained winds and rain...but the worst for 130 years?? Nah...can't see it TBH If im wrong !! (But hopefully not!)
  14. Maybe it was a direct briefing to the airports...I dont know how it all works to be honest...maybe they will update the warnings for the rest us normal bods who dont have to organise 100s of planes landing each hour in the next few hours?
  15. Great...If you have a contact at the MET office and you have checked with them, whats the latest update on the current state of play?
  16. If you watch Sky News you will hear what I heard...maybe they have there wires crossed or are over-egging it as per my earlier post :-)
