  1. Loving the longer daylight which allows sunshine before 06.00 and after 20.30 even if there's plenty of showers/rain in between!

      I remember Atlantic 252

wish i could sleep like a log, winter the best

    3. Bottesford

      Bottesford

Summer is great - waking up naturally before the alarm so you feel fresh instead of the winter thing of it still being dark and being forced awake by the alarm.

Sure its easier to sleep longer in winter but that's what makes it so damn hard to get up! When its cold even more so - bed is the best place to be!

      I remember Atlantic 252

ya see alarm, whats one of them? never need one sadly, always awake and never tired

  2. Forecasts saying it's going to get colder at the weekend, with 12c max and sunny spells Sat/Sun after a dull day at 9c max today I beg to differ!

Yes that seems to be the trend over the last 4/5 years

  3. So many people saying they want a change and for there to be rain. Those wishes were occuring about 12 months go after a long dry spell and we ended up with that abhorrent damaging winter!

Nooo, I want snow in the winter, not rain. >:-(

If it ain't thunderin', it shouldn't be rainin'.

      Richard2901

Last thing I want to see is rain. There's been more than enough of that this year including yet another vile weekend last week. What I want to see a change from is this disgusting cloudy high. Should have brought glorious weather but has just been dire.

    4. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

I didn't complain at too much last winter. I'm really not bothered if we get a bit of rain. I'm not bothered if we don't either. But it is nice to see a hint of some more changeable/thundery activity, was starting to think I'd see basically no weather for the whole of September before going back to uni around the 21st

  4. Rare for frontal rain to begin while it's still warm, hazily sunny and with no lower level cloud in sight.

      MP-R

I'm surprised how heavy the rain has been considering how high the pressure is and the lack of different airmasses between the front.

The BBC are really having a bad June, opposite of the weather :)

  8. To the charity caller who just called at my house. Not the best way to promote your charity by swearing at me when I said "no thank you"!

These people really are a menace and actually discourage me from giving to charity, especially the chuggers you get harrassing you in the town centres.

Ditto. I give to a lot of charities every month, but walk by chuggers.

  9. Just read a post in the MOD thread syaing all the rain is good after such a dry summer last year. Yes, the wettest 2 months since I began recording rainfall 8 years ago have happened successively, that's really good! Not!

    1. Bottesford

      Bottesford

Still at least the rain has fallen in the winter half of the year instead of focusing on summer like the past few years. Too much of it at once though of course.

  13. In my family I am the only one who loves storms. In the last week my brother has had a storm in Notts while it was sunny here, my wife had a storm at work near Salisbury while 15 miles away we had drizzle here and today my parents a storm where they are on holiday while it's warm & sunny here!!

Indeed, does have that warm feel even at night, shame it's only for the SE but even the NW isn't too cold for those who like warm nights.

Covent Garden last night was positively sweltering, perfect for al-fresco dining.

  20. Scilly at 12c, Cairngorm at -9.5c, which meas a 21.5c temp difference across the UK!!

    1. forecaster

      forecaster

Most of that difference is from elevation though. If you only considered sites at sea level, it wouldn't be anywhere near so impressive!

  25. Has anybody else ever seen a double halo around the moon? We have had thickening Cirrus over the last hour and a short while ago I noticed a bright inner glowing halo, a gap and then an outer halo. Previously I have only ever seen either of those on their own.

    1. Dale Hay

      Dale Hay

I saw a double halo back in December or January when I popped to the shop. I thought it was my glasses, but took a pic on my phone and you can notice it slightly. It was a very clear night too. :)
