  1. Ooof, how close! The storms in a line from Hull just clipping us. Just saw some great rotation which i'll post a video of soon. Great to watch, Hopefully the other storms lined up will hit proper.
  2. Well they must know something to extend the Amber which now covers my area. If you check the invent radar the band massively peps up and has us under red, pink and white rainfall for the whole night.
  3. Interesting read. The first recorded sprite over the UK from the storms that clipped us on the 24th. http://www.rmets.org/britains-first-sprite-recording
  4. Some nice convection going on here at the moment. Just had a heavy shower with a bit of small hail mixed in. More bubbling up out west too.
  5. A half decent storm ongoing here in Scarborough. The majority of lightning is out to sea but still looks impressive. The heavy rain out to sea too so it's just skimming us at the moment. Looking at the mass on the radar this could rumble on for a while yet though.
  6. The BBC24 forecast insisting on the storms over Lincolnshire spreading up the NE coast through the night. Just hope they keep their intensity.
  7. True, I meant regarding the heavy rain and storms forecast for eastern areas this evening by the BBC.Met Office have extended Amber warning into Scotland now...
  8. Hmmmm, Could that be what's forecast to affect the North East coast overnight? One of the few remaining possibilities i suppose!
  9. Some slow but impressive convection here with a massive development just to our west. It's showing light/ moderate precip on the radar. Is this where the convergence zone from the onshore breeze will come into play and intensify this potential storm i wonder? The local and national BBC forecast showed a real soaking for us overnight but iv'e struggled to see where this would come from up until now.
  10. Well the metoffices invent predictive rainfall thing is absolutely nothing like the BBC forecast. Tom Schafernacker's forecast showed the storms most potent in the west (Amber warning area) then transferring east in what looked like a more organised band of thundery rain. Invent shows nothing even getting over the pennines. In fairness iv'e always found invent quite accurate but i hope not this time as iv'e just downloaded an app to get long exposure shots on my phones camera! Bring on the lightning!
  11. I thought the sea breeze would ruin our chances but we had a terrific storm this morning. From my inexperienced interpretation of the forecast the sea breezes may work in our favour as it will set up convergence zones through this afternoon.Exciting stuff!
  12. That must have been the distant lightning i could see at around 1am. It was really foggy though so was hard to tell what was going on. Was very eerie! Heard rumbles around 4am. Wwoke to mega thunder at 8am. Beauty of a storm just out to sea with frequent CG strikes. No rain. Classic undulations on the cloud base too. Fantastic stuff!
  13. What kind of shenanigans is this? I didn't think there would be a chance of storms here in Scarborough so went to bed. Just woken by a series of frequent flashes. It's seriously the weirdest thing iv'e seen because there's thick fog at the moment as there has been all day. No thunder or precip. Nearest storm on radar is Hull area. Could the light be travelling that far? perhaps carried further due to the fog? It's eerie i tell thee!
  14. Apologies if this is a daft question but will this awful low cloud on the East coast affect the chance of any storms in this area? The temp here is now just 16.7C! with fog forming. (It really is miserable!). I understand home grown won't happen in these conditions. Is there a change afoot that will warm up this area?
  15. Wow, Looks well impressive. 900+ strikes from that single cell too! I am curious what 200mm's an hour rain rate would feel like!
  16. What an odd few days. The sunshine has been great. We've had the usual bank holiday weekend moped festival, the pictures from last year look the same with glorious sunshine. The only difference being about 17C! The town has been heaving and i can quite safely say it's the first time iv'e seen the beaches so busy whilst it's been so cold. It was pretty funny too seeing most of the die hard tourists refusing to leave the beach even when it started snowing! We've had quite a few flurries which was surprising because it felt quite warm in the sun. I even mowed the lawn only to be interrupted by a brief snow shower!
  17. Ours is easy. 22nd: 1C/ 0C 23rd: 1C/ 1C 24th: 1C/ 1C 25th: 2C / 0C 26th: 2C / 1C 27th: 1C / ? My bets are with 1C! The real lack of variation in temp here is due to the extent of cloud cover. Even with the showers we've just had stratus cloud in between with darkening skies the only clue that a heavier burst is imminent.
  18. Well definately sour grapes from me. Thursday the 14th March was the last time I saw any decent snowcover (Or sun!). Since then the wind has been Easterly and at times bone chilling with continuous stratus laden skies! However despite the wind direction and origin of air we've had hardly any laying snow this time round. It has however pretty much continually snowed for the last three days it's just been a continuous flurry! We've had the occasional sugar coating but with temps slightly above freezing it doesn't last long. We did however do tonnes better here in January when most of the West of the region missed out so all's fair i suppose Interestingly as i type the snow has picked up... another temporary dusting on the way.
  19. Snow showers through today, mainly light but occasional dusting in the heavier bursts. Activity seems to have picked up again now and snow settling a bit easier after dark. Still only a dusting though so far.
  20. Still nothing here. The wind is howling though, Iv'e just been out to pick the bins up after i heard them crash! Absolutely freezing!! Radar looks better, could be some snow overnight albeit light. Impressive seeing some of the totals coming in.
  21. Had light precipitation over us on the radar for a while but nothing falling. As i thought yesterday not making it over here. Small chance of a covering tonight maybe?
  22. Not expecting anything here this time round. Way too far east and little elevation. Will be nonetheless impressive watching as some of the totals start pouring in from further west of the region. Anything we do get will be a bonus and chances of this are more likely on Saturday morning from the second front. .
  23. Not got much time to check the data. Just browsing the MetO forecast which has heavy to light snow here on Saturday. NetWeathers forecast which i believe uses GFS shows heavy snow Friday afternoon, all day Sat and into Sunday. Met's warnings don't cover us so still as clear as mud. Any thoughts?
