  1. Temp 2.8C... Though Dew point -1.9C. Had a little flurry half hour ago (The shower Vizzy just mentioned). I think the next lot of PPN is in another warm sector so an hour or so snow before humidity rises and ends up turning to rain again. The MetO show heavy rain from 00.00 to 14.00. If only it was a degree or 2 lower we would have been in for a treat! Still, there was only ever a chance of it snowing here on the coast from tomorrow afternoon, and that still looks on, though the showers decrease! As already mentioned the NYM and Wolds should do pretty well tonight.
  2. Temp shot up to 3.1c as the rain arrived... Looks like quite a bit of rain heading in today before the proper cold sets in overnight.
  3. Temp 0.1C, Dew Point -0.8C. Lot's of precip about just to the North. May see a dusting before it turns to rain. Snow still looks possible from tomorrow on the coast. BBCnews Weather now saying snow showers (even thought the graphic showed rain!).
  4. I'm a bit more optimistic! The warnings have been steady for 3 days now and today have included tuesday. As i said aswell 850hpa temps below -7C, dew point forecasts below freezing. I know there are other variables but I think it looks promising! Tomorrows going to be wet mind, though i wouldn't be surprised to see some temporary accumulations looking at the intensity of the showers....
  5. I kind of get the despondency! Just watched the BBC forecasts, national and Hudson. It looked very underwhelming with mainly rain showing apart from the NYM. Hudson finished by saying something like showers continuing Sunday and Monday. No mention of snow, just on NYM and Wolds. I recall plenty of forecasts in Northerlies though where Hudson has been wrong, forecast rain and we've had a right dumping. (Not mentioning the "wintry showers" that have just dumped inches of the stuff in West / South Yorks!) None of the forecasts iv'e seen tie in with the Metoffice warnings which state snow, even to low levels. From my limited experience looking at the charts snow is possible down to the coast from Sunday morning as i posted above. Today and tomorrow we were pretty much always due to be in the mild sector so anything tomorrow is a bonus.
  6. Cheers for the mention Vizzy! I'm hopeful that the cold spell is finally going to swing in our favour. Meto warnings cover us from Sunday through to Tuesday. We'll probably do better Sunday and Monday with a more NNW wind which should reduce modification. Tuesday at the moment I would expect more sleet at the coast as the wind veers more NE. Dew points look favourable from early hours Sunday morning, right to the coast. 850hpa temps at -7/-8C from Sunday, I usually find -7C does it here on the coast in a Northerly. For those concerned about Mobile apps such as METO and BBC. Matt Hugo reminded us the other day in a tweet that the forecasts are made up from Raw model data and will change each time a model run updates. There is also no forecaster input into these so they are wildly innacurate. (Thankfully, as only rain and sleet forecast here on the apps!). I find it best to read the text forecast, warnings, BBC forecasts and input on here and UKWF. Cracking sunrise this morning too, shame I didn't have my proper camera and time to get to the clifftops! An exciting few days ahead!
  7. Nice shower that!! Had all melted until that shower. Another nice dusting now.
  8. Nothing on MetO charts. It was shown on the BBC forecast though this morning. It even showed snow on the coast for a time before turning to rain. Can't wait for Sunday onwards now. Have you seen the MetO warning? It's unusual to just have the coast in a warning area, especially with snow warning...
  9. Woke up to a bonus dusting this morning. As frustrating as the radar watching was last night, the main event for us in the East was always going to be from Sunday. Iv'e just seen the weather warning from the METO. It's ace and literallly covers the coast (Typical wishbone type setup). It's about time we had in on the action! It seems they are eyeing potential disturbances also for those inland. "Further snow showers will affect parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland on Sunday leading to some locally large accumulations and the showers may spread along eastern and western coasts of England and Wales. The showers will be associated with strong winds so drifting and temporary blizzard conditions are possible as well as icy stretches. The public should be aware of the potential for disruption from these conditions. This alert is likely to be updated in the coming days. A very cold airmass will continue to spread southwards from Scotland and Northern Ireland across the remainder of the UK on Sunday accompanied by strong winds. Frequent showers are likely to form in this airmass, primarily affecting northern parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland but also running along eastern and western coastal districts of England and Wales at times. With the cold air snow is likely to accumulate even to low levels wherever showers affect. Periods of enhanced snowfall are possible within this general flow but details of these are very uncertain at this time. As such this alert is likely to be updated and refined in the coming days to better represent individual features. There is the potential for disruption throughout this period due to the accumulating snow and ice but also with temporary blizzard conditions leading to very difficult driving conditions."
  10. Finally! First snowfall for 2 years! Funnily, hardly owt on the radar, yet enough to give a nice dusting. Temp 0.7C, Dew -0.3 so close but close enough. Radar going quiet now though.
  11. Awwwww c'mon!! Nowt here. Snow north, south and west of us! Everywhere but here.... Anything coming from nw is getting killed off by the nym. Still, interesting watching the reports come in. Surprised at the sleet and rain reports. Didnt think that would be an issue away from west facing coasts.
  12. Getting quite excited now as apart from the odd flake we've had no settling snow here on the coast this year (Or last year!). Looking good to catch something tonight / tomorrow AM. My focus switches to the Northerley from Sunday though. We usually do well from a Northerly even right on the coast. For the posters mentioning marginality on the coast, i don't (from experience) think it will effect snow chances too much. We need -6/-7C 850's from a Northerly (Much lower for an easterly!). The temps forecast from Sunday and into next week are at -7C and lower at times on GFS at the moment. Lots to look forward to in the next week!
  13. I'm about 1 mile inland but high up above cayton bay so have good elevation for being at the coast. -7 i find does it for a northerly. Needs to be about -12 in an easterly... Even 2013 was sleet here!! We funilly seem to do better from a nnw flow. Showers still clip us yet theres not a massive amount of modification.
  14. Noticed the the bbc news24 forecast backing the cold end to the week with bitter winds and snow. My only concerns would be the usual coastal marginality. Hopefully uppers will upgrade closer to the time. Its surely our turn now!!
  15. Well if its not modification from north sea temps scuppering our snow chances... I thought we were in with a chance with this coming from the west. Apparently not... 2C and rain. Could count the snowflakes on one hand from this damp, sorry... cold spell. Still great to see the majority got some good snowfall. Enjoy guys!!
  16. I honestly thought the beeb had mucked up their forecast of rain at the coast. I could see the bank of cloud heading in. Temp was -0.1c. Dew point was -1. Nice frost on the ground. The temp rocketed to nearly 2.0c in 10-15mins. Had a bit of sleetyness but mostly rain. 4.4mm so far. Possibility of showers behind the main band being a bit more wintry. I wont hold my breath!!
  17. Well, the BBC forecast has left me a bit underwhelmed! Nowt but rain forecast here on the coast (Bloody cold rain it'll be too!!). Best chance for us was Tuesday night but at present we'll be lucky if anything makes it this far east. On the plus side, lowest temp of winter this morning at -3.3C. That with patchy fog made for a nice hoar frost.
  18. Rattling about here now, Just recorded 58mph, Highest gust recorded here since i got my new setup. Just noted the dew point is -0.6. PPN not far away either.
  19. Nice pics mate! Looks like a decent day out! We had a flurry this morning. That was it! Still, didn't expect much from a Westerly right over here on the East Coast! Tonights storm should be interesting anyway, My top gust on my new station is 57mph, from the storm on the 10th. I reckon that will be broken ion the next 36 hours. You can view it here if anyones interested. http://www.weatherlink.com/user/pmm509
  20. Thanks for your reply. Iv'e tried that, For some reason I can't even find ports in the device manager! (Windows8) It's all very confusing! I got the weatherlink software to search through every possible port too and it can't find anything. I'm tempted to uninstall and reinstall weatherlink but I'm worried I'll lose my data so far - Theres been some good extremes here too since i set it up so don't want to lose it really!
  21. Hi again! Iv'e got my Davis Vantage Vue set up and working great now (Thanks to the guys who helped on my last topic!). I'm getting a bit frustrated now though! Iv'e used the weatherlink software that came with the station. It's great but the online content is a bit basic (No trends, graphs etc). It also doesn't allow uploads to WOW. Iv'e setup a Wunderground account through the software which has all the info I want and a good interface but i really don't get on with it displaying wind in kph!! (I know I'm being fussy). So, I thought i'd try Cumulus instead as this software allows uploads to WOW and other sites. I can't get the software to work properly! I'm connected with USB which it can't use with this software (or weather display!), I have to use the serial port connection. So i've download the USB to serial convertor, gone through every painstaking step and still the computer still can't find the station! I'm amazed how difficult it is to get data online in an easy to interpret and easily accessible way without having to be a computer genius! I'm about to give up and just settle for the Wunderground but thought I'd see if any of you guys have had similar issues or if there is something blindingly obvious i'm missing! Cheers for reading!
  22. Thank you very much guys. My brother has an old computer that should do just the trick! I knew there would be a way around it without spending a fortune!! Very much appreciated!!
  23. Evening! My awesome wife bought me the Davis Vantage Vue station for Christmas. (Just a bit chuffed!!). Iv'e finally got it set up today. It's working great but I'm wondering how to set up getting my readings online. Iv'e noticed you can do it through Davis website but it's $30 to subscribe (And requires the console to be connected to my laptop). I was slightly disappointed at misreading the box on the data logger as i thought the package included a IP data logger to connect to my router. Iv'e since found out that would cost me £300!! She's spent loads on this station and I'm worried she'll go mad if I start spending more money! Do you guys have any tips or tricks to help me out. I don't like the idea of having my laptop connected to the USB wire of the console and have it on all the time. That's the only solution I can think of at the moment. I spend a lot of time from home and like the idea of being able to see what the conditions are like at home which is why i want a constant data connection. Any ideas or input would be much appreciated!! Cheers Paul.
  24. http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/news/151065.aspx Worst coastal storm surge for 30 years expected tomorrow.
  25. Filmed this about an hour ago. This was part of the band of storms stretching up from Hull. Unfortunately they stayed off the coast and just missed us but caught a few rumbles and this cloud formation which was rotating before it collapsed and flattened out. Any ideas what it was?
