  1. I’d say the same here, been periods of heavy rain but it’s not consistent and only occasionally slightly higher gusts. It is quiet out there, people are evidently staying indoors.
  2. As much as I welcome the increased daylight around the date of the clocks going forward, I tend to find it a bit if a false Dawn, as the temperature up here rarely rises in tandem. In fact some of our coldest feeling weather of the year can be in spring, if we get stuck under the wrong pattern. It’s quite discombobulating. I tend to like this time of year, I think it’s nice to squeeze out the last of the decent sunlight (if we get it) and daylight. Becoming less and less of a fan of winter though so I’m trying not to focus on what’s ahead
  3. Going by the reports I’m seeing, I’d not be surprised if we’ll soon be in amber warning territory for rain for tomorrow afternoon and evening?
  4. Met Office have issued an early yellow warning for rain for SW Scotland, the Firth of Clyde and an arc covering parts of Stirlingshire, Perthshire and Aberdeenshire, because of this system. Wondering if this is likely going to become an amber warning closer to the time?
  5. Well I’m starting to appreciate just how sheltered Glasgow is! The rain out here - a mere 30 miles away - takes on a very different character to what I remember in the city. When people tell you it always rains in Greenock, believe them.
  6. A taste of autumn tonight. Just like that very generous serving of autumn we got during the last few months.
  7. With it being the last day of August we are solidly into the ‘Dog days’ of summer. I’m more and more sympathetic with the idea that seasons are based around the period between the solstices and the equinoxes, rather than strictly three month periods. Would be more than delighted if summer made a wee reappearance during September.
  8. Re: Scottish upland areas, over a certain height it will be difficult for trees to grow due to the amount of wind, but part of the reason that so much is barren is deforestation which happened over centuries, and accelerated by landowners who wanted to use the land for sheep grazing. Next time you see parts of Scotland described as ‘unspoilt’, realise that it’s typically not the case - it’s a description which usually is associated with the continued under-development of the area because of those same landed interests.
  9. Just spent the best part of three weeks in Central Europe. The sort of trip that probably needs to be prescribed on the NHS during a summer like this. Bit stifling at times and incredibly high minimum temps, but it also had this wonderful thing…. Persistent warm sunshine! The ability to go outside in shorts and not worry about rain is a magical thing. I saw in another part of the forum a suggestion that this summer has only been ‘average’ as opposed to one of the worst on record. I have to say I’m struggling with that description. Maybe that is the case in parts of England, or maybe the warm June saved it, but July was a total washout and August doesn’t look like it’s been much better. It’s like nature has it in for us. Hoping against hope that the dog days can deliver some warmth and some brightness, even with the lengthening shadows and earlier sunsets. The seasonal return of Autumn, as opposed to the mid-year version we’ve experienced, can wait til October.
  10. Even by our rain sodden west of Scotland standards, this summer has been really poor. Was nice during June, but even then we had our moments of heavy rain (you might remember the Scotland match at Hampden had to be delayed due to a downpour). Struggling to think of a poorer summer, and there’s a fair amount of competition!
  11. This is garbage now. Can accept unsettled spells in summer as to be expected, but the persistence of this wet weather is something else.
  12. We’re bound to get a beautiful September. Nothing surer. So don’t lose all hope.
  13. Not the worst day today. Nice to get a wee bit of luck with that heavy rain heading for Northern England instead of us. Not so good for them sadly. Starting to reach the conclusion that easily our nicest and most reliable weather periods here are May into June and August into September. Poor school kids get short changed every other year.
  14. Thanks! Amazing that we can both see the same clouds but if they’re so high up in the atmosphere that would make sense. I was sure the explanation would be something along those lines. Looked pretty stunning in person, the photo didn’t do it justice.
  15. Not a bad day in both Inverclyde and Glasgow. Bit on the cool side, would’ve been a very pleasant day if it was late September. Cracking sky to the North West tonight. Anyone know what these light streaks are in the sky are?
  16. Yellow warning for rain out for the west of Scotland through until tomorrow morning.
  17. We had torrential rain at 2am this morning. Absolutely stoated down. Quite pleasant today in Glasgow. Lots of broken cloud and sunshine.
  18. Rain has actually been fairly mental here for the past few hours. Would be interested in the rainfall totals as I think it’ll be significant.
  19. Rain is pretty heavy here and has been for at least a couple of hours. Might just be more exposed here. Definitely seems to be more intensity to the rainfall here in general, compared to Glasgow.
  20. If the weather constantly complied with the calendar, wouldn’t we all start finding it a bit boring?
  21. Yep, definitely had that late summer feel at times. Only difference is that September tends to be quite nice mostly!
  22. I am sorry we spited you hot weather. All is forgiven and you may return now.
  23. In Glasgow city centre today. Periodic showers passing through. Interested in the ‘June Monsoon’ concept in a recent netweather forecast. Is this a common weather term? I wasn’t aware weather patterns here could be identified so clearly.
