  1. Afternoon all, the front incoming from the north should give some sleet/wet snow initially, though will turn to rain as milder uppers move in. Currently 4C, DP -3.7C.
  2. I thought last August, especially around the Olympics, was pretty decent here. A look back at the Cam uni weather site shows that 28 out of 31 days from last August had a temperature of at least 20C+. There were plenty of days in the low-mid twenties, a couple of 30C+ days and a couple of decent thunderstorms thrown in for good measure, so overall it was a very good month IMO. As for this spring, hopefully for some decent Arctic northerly outbreaks in the first half, and a gradual warm-up in the second half.
  3. Evening all, haven't been on the forum much over the past few days. A damp start to this morning but a lovely sunny afternoon. Hopefully with polar-sourced air during next week we should see plenty more sunshine (including tomorrow aswell). http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn902.png
  4. Here's the link to them mate: http://en.vedur.is/weather/forecasts/atlantic/#type=prec
  5. Nice to be back with everyone south of London! Some severe winds potentially on Friday associated with the deep area of LP crossing the north of the region: http://www.wetterzen...cs/Rmgfs841.gif http://www.wetterzen...cs/Rmgfs931.gif Along with the winds, there could be a fair amount of rain from the front that crosses the region on Friday, and maybe even a little back-edge snow as the low moves eastwards dragging in colder air in strong NE'ly winds.
  6. Just to quickly sum up the model output tonight: A zonal pattern continuing over the next few days with temperatures generally around or slightly above average up to Thursday. Remaining windy with some strong gusts and some outbreaks of rain and showers: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm481.gif By Friday, a NW'ly flow develops dragging the temperatures down to slightly below average, less windy though still the risk of some rain: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm961.gif A small area of LP looks to turn things windier again Friday night into Saturday as a NE'ly wind briefly develops. Later into the weekend, the area of HP in the mid-Atlantic will begin to more directly become involved in our weather, winds turning much lighter, with the chance of frosts developing: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm1441.gif
  7. Evening all, Very windy outside right now, gusts up to 44mph or so. Some heavy, squally rain about to hit here according to the NW radar. Don't mind an occasional period of gusty winds though I must admit I'm not too fond of windy weather. River Cam notably high too this afternoon. Looking fairly windy for the rest of the week for the region, becoming less windy towards the weekend.
  8. Evening all. Had a mix of PPN last night, there was a smattering of new snow on the ground this morning. Up to 5C today, only a few patches of snow left now. A mixed bag of weather to come over the next week. The next 5 days will be dominated by a deep area of LP to the NW of the UK: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm241.gif A variation in temperatures throughout the next week or so with alternating air masses. For example a polar maritime airmass on Monday: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm482.gif But a tropical maritime airmass on Tuesday: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm722.gif GFS maximum temperatures for EA at midday from Sunday to Thursday: Sunday: 7C Monday: 5C Tuesday: 12C Wednesday: 11C Thursday: 8C A windy week to come too, after what has been a very quiet spell of weather wind-wise. For example Monday looking quite windy: http://cdn.nwstatic.co.uk/gfsimages/gfs.20130126/12/51/ukwind.png Varying weather too, with several bands of rain crossing the region, such as tonight and Tuesday, interspersed with some showers and sunshine too. GFS 12z PPN accumilation up to midday Thursday: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rmgfs11714.gif Maybe becoming colder towards next weekend, but something more akin to more typical British winter weather this coming week.
  9. Started snowing in Cambridge. Admittidely the radar doesn't look too great for the PPN type.
  10. Temperature here 0C with a DP of -3.2C. Not expecting PPN to reach here for at least 2-3 hours yet. In response to the above post yes the precipitation will reach EA.
  11. Fell down to -10C on Tuesday morning, though it's a shame that nights like last night couldn't produce any notably low minima as looked possible a couple of days ago.
  12. A cold night here, my own WS recorded below -5C. RAF Lakenheath down to -8C. Hopefully one last snowfall tonight which will end a good cold spell IMO.
  13. Tomorrow does look like a pretty tricky forecast to make. NAE and GFS at loggerheads in particular and perhaps at the extreme ends of the spectrum. Snow that does fall tomorrow night is going to thaw quite readily during the course of Saturday, though it's not until Saturday evening until a mild sector of air makes inroads into the region: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn542.png The wind really ramping up on Saturday and beyond, after what's been a very calm period of weather. Next week dominated by LP to the north and HP to the south, though temperatures and conditions will vary from day to day. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn1201.png
  14. I'd go for 7/10. 5 days with snow falling and 7 lying snow far. Had some low overnight minima (down to -10C yesterday morning) as well as some decent frosts when the cold spell started nearly two weeks back. Had a decent fall of snow on Sunday and infact currently snowing pretty heavy here now. Could get below -10C again over the next couple of nights and the possibility of one final spell of snow before the cold spell is over for here at the weekend.
  15. A bit more a thaw here today though still a full cover on the grass. Currently snowing here, temp 1.8C, dew point -1.8C.
  16. Temperature continuing to drop here, around 0C. DP below -2C. Would rather have the lower temperatures and dew points to be honest instead of wet snow. Not sure how cold it will get tonight here, maybe a few degrees below zero. Wednesday and Thursday night have the potential to be very bitter indeed, I think we will see at least one more set of sub -10C recordings before this cold spell is out! The transition to milder weather is appearing to take place during Friday night into Saturday, with the possibility of a spell of snow preceding the rain until the colder temperatures are mixed out.
  17. Temperature was on the rise not too long ago, though fortunately the DP remained below 0C. Temperature now on its way down again and so is the DP with decreasing humidity. Current temperature 1.7C, DP -1C.
  18. Just a couple of thoughts on the rest of the week from me: Tonight looks pretty cold for most of the region, I'd say -7C or even below that is possible in a few areas. Into tomorrow, temperatures struggling to get above freezing for many areas, DP's suggest a slight thawing of snow though not much. Possibly some light snow in the far west/south-west of the region tomorrow evening as demonstrated by the NAE, though looking unlikely at the moment. Up to Friday, I think a mainly dry theme will continue with temperatures struggling to get above freezing during the day for most and at least several degrees below freezing at night. Towards the weekend, confidence from the model output that the weather is likely to break down from the west with wet, mild and windy weather taking hold for a few days at least.
  19. This morning I measured 10cm on an outside table. A few snow flurries about. If we don't see much of a thaw during the week, could get some pretty low nightime minima I think.
  20. Maybe my area will get one last burst of snow a bit later from the blob of PPN entering Norfolk and Suffolk. Temperature and DP beginning to fall now, will be very hazardous out on the roads and paths in the morning.
  21. After more than 12 hours of non-stop snowfall, looks like it's coming to an end, though perhaps some more patchy snow in the next few hours. Today has been fantastic for snow, with 3-4 inches on most surfaces. Really love days like this!
