  1. didnt sleep much because of the heat, but nodded off early morning only to be awokon not long after by a fairly close crack , with intense rain and hail followed by another close crack, now the shows over , with a distant rumble heard not bad for here, but still pathetic , more a thundery shower than a storm. ttey dont breed em like they used to here feeling tired and it work now, damn heat,
  2. probably just patchy drizzle that will die a death , or anoprop, I will platt sawdust if anything kicks of there and moves our way. going to bed now
  3. cheshire , you must be joking, wont happen tonight for sure, no matter what the charts say, that I can guarantee, the north west has become appalling for lack of thunderstorms recently, was never the best area anyway. but we did get a few decent ones each year, something has inexplicable changed imo
  4. Now there is shock! East getting storms when they were shown to be in the west ,Saying that, BBC have got it right though now on there latest forecast for here, slight risk of isolated thunderstorm Yawn , In other words bugger all will happen this evening and tonight Signing off now
  5. I logged into this forum to see were the thunderstorms were breaking out at about 1600 as that was the time they were expected to be brewing just south of here and affecting us at 1700 according to met office and BBC, I was getting all excited about hearing about thundery showers affecting places and waiting at the window for the first rumbles, AS IF , All I read is about cells in France same old story, and the odd cumulus tower in places like Bristol. Off to the gym instead now
  6. Get the feeling this is going to be a let down here, maybe the odd distant flash or two tonight if very very lucky, As for tomorrow I am hoping for more in the way of hearing thunder , but again not getting hopes up this time
  7. I hope that does not get the hopes up too much for crewecold and wrexhamcarl
  8. I remember seeing a CB last August over the Irish sea coast from Wigan with lightning. and some posters from West Yorkshire said they saw it. OK the lightning was not quite as frequent as in the link I have shown but it looked very similar with the CBs outlined against the dusk sky could happen again in the next few evenings if we are lucky enough, Here ...
  9. Has the north sea SST recovered yet in this warm spell ?, or is that cold spring still having repercussions for the more eastern areas, bringing low grey cloudy spells that were not predicted?
  10. Yes !! and some more storms thrown in, although I like autumn, it can bring convection off the still warm Irish sea , gales, or nice calm settled warm weather with a 'softer' feeling warmth.Problem is its just the precursor to the horror that is winter with its blandness, and big heating bills
  11. its been a great spell of weather here, three weeks of temps in the mid twenties and at times high twenties , yesterday was the most cloudy so far, but there was lots of breaks and sunny intervals, west has been best for this heatwave, never really been nagged with that cloud from the east. However, this morning is the first proper overcast day, lets hop it breaks up a bit I wonder if those storms come here
  12. last year in august, as a multicell moved overhead whilst at work in St Helens and produced loads of lightning as it moved toward Manchester , watched lightning for a good hour and lost count of the cg's edit...forgot to say, this storm back built and produced another smaller but very electrically active cell on its south west side, but I had to drive back to wigan, it was still throwing out forked lightning as i was driving down the east lancs road
  13. things might change a little hopefully , in the past heatwaves this epic have always given something here , even if just a distant lightning display or a few rumbles , or somtimes a corker overhead (not that often) but we seem to live in different times now so would not be surprised if it all fails
  14. Wont even be cumulus, more like a layer of light gray stratus rolling in from the Irish sea, with the added interest of some patchy light rain
  15. I think I might have jinxed the continuation of the hot spell, using terms like 'relish' If the weather gods are reading this they will terminate the warmth prematurely , as the weather rarley does anything I want it to Sorry hotties
  16. Exactly. those hating the heat get no symapthy from me, I had to endure the awful cold of dec2010 and my pipes froze and burst in the loft, costing my insurance to go up, and this march was pretty awful, could never get warm , central heating on max just to feel normal, I could sense the £££££££'s going through the roof even with insulation. Bitter cold and overcast grey skies day after day , and people on here gloating about it all. It was drabness with knobs on. I do also believe the cold spring was mainly to blame for NO THUNDERSTORMS and still having repercussions One good thing to come from this spell is the SST's have a good chance of going above average, which could help to stop this coming winter getting a too severe spell Dec2010 style .... and going into next year with a better chance of storms Being a 'mildy' I not a big fan of extremes either hot or cold , but I am actually relishing this hot spell, its a very much needed tonic to really warm the land and sea up. Maybe things are just resetting
  17. I like that forecast, heat just goes on into second week, just wish there was more emphasis on those isolated thunderstorms not being as isolated ,
  18. I will tell you WHY that happened, becuase I was in the Leeds area at the time, my wigan storm shield followed me I am so sorry,
  19. well we have got the heat now , so there should be storms for all at some point. right? then again.... what a naff year, even 30c temps are not going to deliver, would not be surprised when this hot spell ends it just slowly cools from the north , but with just isolated storms in you know where, begins with L things are just not like they used to be zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  20. Lack of storms...I believe different synoptics caused by changes in the jet along with lower SST is the main reason . It no co- incidence that this year has been particulaay bad with one of the coldest springs ever, and below average SST . Lets hope this protracted warm spell can raise the SST to normal or above, and that we have a mild winter, so as we go into next spring summer the chances could be more favourable for TStorm development ??
  21. Wow, even chesire/lancashire getting hundreds of bolts knocking out many power lines , can you imagine that now, the storm thread would be in meltdown, So no, we will not get any like that this summer, I would confidently put money on it, them days are gone IMO, Hope I am wrong, but deep down......
  22. Its ok as far as I am concerened as I can completey understand, I am old enough to remember the eighties. and we did get many more storms, its not selective memory, its reality, this year is just ridiculous for lack of thunder, it beggars belief.... and is begining to annoy me now,,,especially for the reason the scientists, backed by the met office were adamant these kind of downpours would become more frequent in our so called warming climate , woo hoo I thought . I held them to that, but somehow it sounded too good to be true, and it was . It would not annoy me so much about their 'way off' predictions if the storms had remained the same, but they are getting less, much less ....MEGA FAIL They need to hang their heads in shame, useless lot
  23. Well, I am feeling under the weather right becuse of thunderstorms, because there bleeding haven't been any at all this year! and not likely to be anytime soon, and August is beckoning , just unreal Its not just the T and L , and torrential rain but seeing them bubble up in the distance and anvilate ,knowing what going on inside them and knowing they are heading towards you, etc
  24. I am not convinced about any storms towards the end of the week or weekend, just not falling for it A drizzle front from the north never did anything here , even in the active eighities and ninties, so what chance is there in 2013.... errr absoloute zero
