Some brilliant walking conditions this morning apart from the sheer depth of snow, almost a foot fell here last night and not a Met O warning in site. made for some good photographs though, although the one of a collapsed outdoor seating gazebo at my local, something repeated at other pubs and restaurants around here is yet another kick in the teeth for businesses already on their knees. as for the farmers, these lambs looked ok but I’d imagine there’s a fair few sheep and lambs out on the tops not so fortunate.20 points

We had a really nice sunrise this morning, being just on the edge of the overnight shower clouds which allowed some further snowfall overnight but also on the edge of the clearer skies towards Manchester allowing some fog in the valley to have formed. Really dark golden-reds and orange hues as the sun rose which was well worth setting the 5:30am alarm for on a early Sunday.15 points

A few photos from earlier this evening showing showers over the Firth and on horizon towards north coast. Currently 0c Still a few showers to the NE across the Firth An anvil cloud just at dusk on the horizon on the north coast. Taken at 8.45pm looking north the midsummer sunsets are not far away but this is still a frosty snowy sunset. Forgot to submit last night!11 points

Following on from the above post more showers coming in off the Firth this morning after a -3c start. Another of Ben More. A few showing the hills to the west of Ben Wyvis. Couple of the Cawdor Hills and Bramble. Took a run inland this morning to confirm what Iheard from another farmer that around the Grntown area fields are completely brown after our very cold winter and now this cold spell in April Can confirm there is not a sign of green growth . The excess feed all farmers in this area had built up this last year or two will used up now.10 points

Covering of the white stuff here too early doors. Was half asleep just nipping for the necessaries out of bed, looked outside and was totally confused as to what was going on for a couple of seconds! -6.7 & -2.3°C last two nights so that's fifty sixth and seventh air frosts.9 points

Morning Snow showers some heavy will be frequent for northern England this afternoon and a local covering is possible particularly if they become more organised and merge. Rain sleet and snow showers in areas south of here, although for most that do get any snow it will be a case of it falling but not settling and accumulating with sunshine in between them. An area of rain separated from a low to the northwest will move into parts of Wales then most likely into western and then into central or southern parts of England later tonight into tomorrow morning. It is a fairly small feature and most of the precipitation will probably be light though a chance some of it could be heavy, particularly for Wales where on high ground there could be 2-5cm. A few other places may have a light covering of snow including to lower levels from this. Any that remains during tomorrow morning turning mostly to rain, weakening and clearing away by the afternoon though possibly a lot of cloud left over for these areas with showers in the southwest.. Temperatures now more likely remaining close to average for most from tuesday with high pressure over the whole country until thursday where it may drift slightly east, mostly dry for many including Scotland and northern Ireland although upto wednesday a few showers is a possibility in some places which is a slight change from previous updates. High pressure probably over much of the country into saturday the exception possibly being the northwest. Most probably remaining dry, a fair amount of sunshine but some areas may have occasional cloudier spells depending on the exact wind direction.. Gfs..9 points

Yes it looks like HP all the way to day 10. Not warm though as you say Mike. Will have to rely on the increasing strength of the sun to provide any warmth, which, out of the wind is definately noticeable. However do not want this towards the end of April though on the gfs12z This northerly signal keeps coming and going on gfs but as before is at bottom of pack in FI. Still awaiting signs of genuine warm up....7 points

Just popped in from the south east to say what amazing and beautiful winter wonderland pictures. This April is turning into a real chiller, especially further north. Although we may see a few snow flakes / graupel down here this afternoon...7 points

Morning all Just goes on and on... Another day ahead with snow/wintry showers breaking out inland through the afternoon. Current radar: Here is what the Met Office forecast for later. 15:00 16:00 I remember when we used to get warm days in April! @shuggee risk of frosts continues right through until next weekend (current output) - must be a new all time record approaching for you. (Total number of recorded air frosts - not sure what period you cover? Just Winter and Spring or all seasons combined?)7 points

It sure is! Late on Both clusters go back to heights to the NW and downstream trough. There’s a vague idea on the GEFS too. *maybe* some retrogression hints at day 10 on the GEM too. I doubt day 12 would be overly mild... On the other hand the 18z is different again, with a low in the E Atlantic instead of a ridge and has the W Russian high ridging over us still at day 11... Not much of a match with the 8-14 NOAA? Let’s see if the GFS ops and eps can find some consistency on this over the next few days. Then we can start talking surface conditions. Regardless, the good news is the ECM failed to spoil things so we’re locked in for a dry and settled spell into next week. I’m sure the beer garden folk will happily raise a glass to that.7 points

Snow still lying on conifers to the south . Currently 3c Field in foreground still brown despite being sown 3 weeks ago. Root development is very good but shoots not breaking soil surface yet.Have actually seen it take 6 weeks for emergence in a cold spring so not too concerned yet. Good root development will help it catch up yet. Early sowing usually helps towards an early harvest hopefully in better weather. We will need every day of our 5 month growing season this year. Woke up to a dusting of snow here this morning as snow showers moved in off the North Sea. Yesterday was absolutely crackers with snow settling on the beach at Robin Hoods Bay and 2 of my weather stations falling to -8.2c overnight. Keld fell to -7c this morning and thick snow lay across parts of North Yorkshire from stationary showers in the west last yesterday evening and snow showers this morning in the east. I missed out on any of the fun yesterday but had to have a ride out this morning to the nearby North York Moors. A few of my highest weather stations have a mean temperature of just 1c so far this April with hard frosts looking to continue over the coming nights. As an extreme weather enthusiast I've found it quite hard to contain myself over the last week or so.6 points

So quiet in here today..ok, back up frosty..done that line already!..anyway, moving swiftly on, the Gfs 6z op is predominantly dominated by high pressure in one form or another..as for temperatures, that’s more problematic, to be frank, it’s a struggle to get far into double digits Celsius and there are some cold frosty nights for sure..but at least it can’t be called unsettled..can it!?6 points

Fantastic pics in here. Yesterday at 0600 dipped to -6c which would beat some recent ‘winters’ down here Snow showers came in during the afternoon with the temp being only 4c at 1700. Lovely start to the day today, -3.5c and sunny. However it’s clouded over and snow is currently lightly falling with the temp at 5c. Quite looking forward to the warmer temperatures in 5 or so days time IMG_3342.MOV IMG_3341.MOV6 points

Going to be rather cold tomorrow but at least no frontal heavy rain or strong winds. Outlook remains mostly dry. The Lake District is firmly in it's annual dry season..April typically driest month of the year here. Had yesterday's or even today's weather happened tomorrow the tabloids would have has field day, people sitting outside with the snow falling!6 points

Hardly the most inspiring of GEFS temperature ensembles. But, anyway: Mustn't crumble, eh?6 points

Yet another air frost last night, easily down to -3 degrees, many a winter month has failed to deliver the number of air frosts we've has this month and we're only 11 days in! Yes a surprise snowfall for many yesterday, not forecast! Would have been classed heaviest in quite a number of winters! This is turning into a significant cold spell for April.6 points

The 18z GFS op, like the 12z, is bringing in a breakdown of the high pressure from the south for next Sunday (+186h), around 1016mb in the rain in the south of the UK. The rain really gets going more widely later in the afternoon over much of the UK and Ireland (+192h). The ECM from 12z is having nothing to do with it, keeping the high pressure firmly in charge over the whole of the UK and Ireland, 1032-1036mb for the same time.6 points

I seem to be missing all of it . Still chuffed that many places around me are getting quite a good snow event.6 points
