Looking fine for the Bank Holiday weekend, warm and mostly dry

Plenty of fine weather this coming weekend, warmth but a blustery east wind will set in. Just a few showers interrupting the fair conditions. Not bad for a Bank Holiday.

Issued: 24th August 2022 17:58

With the end of August on the horizon, nearing the end of school holidays for more of the UK, it will soon be meteorological autumn. So, a lot of pressure on the late August bank holiday to provide some decent weather.

High pressure will be building in which should bring a lot of settled, fair weather and warmth. It’s not a completely dry picture and a brisk easterly wind off the North Sea will become more of a feature as the weekend continues.

Bank Holiday Monday weather UK

For those off to the seaside, the breeze off the sea will make a difference. On Saturday, there winds will be light everywhere, perhaps just catching the north coast of Kent in the afternoon Margate. After the muggy feel to things midweek, it won’t feel as close but still warm at 22C until Monday. Then you’ll need to stay out of the wind. The sea is warm though at this time of year.

Northern parts will see some cool nights with temperatures dipping into single figures inland. If you are off camping, it’s worth remembering that evenings will be nippy and sunset is earlier now as we move away from the height of summer.  By day, the sun is still strong so sunscreen is needed. Many places will be in the twenties Celsius, with southeast Britain up into the high 20sC.

The Silverstone Classic takes place this coming weekend. There will be a lot of fine, bright weather. More cloud on Friday but still fair and more strong sunshine through the weekend with temperatures of 22C to 26C by Sunday.

“A fabulous family festival with thrilling motorsport at its heart … and a packed programme of entertainment.”

It’s the F1 Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. The weekend forecast is dry and bright with warm sunshine, 22C on Sunday.

The detail of this weekend’s UK forecast is tricky. Where will see any showers, how many will break out?

Friday looks grey and damp for Edinburgh but the weekend should be brighter with a light westerly breeze and temperatures up to 20C, so good news for festival go-ers as the Fringe comes to a close.

Cardiff will have a fine weekend with sunny spells and temperatures of 23C then 25C on Sunday, even higher by Bank Holiday Monday but windy with it.

Northern Ireland could see a few showers, even reaching Belfast on Saturday but a fair weekend. Temperatures up to 21 or 22C.

Birmingham will also have a fine weekend with sunny spells and warmth at 25C. There is the risk of a shower through central Britain on Saturday and later in the day frontal rain will brush north coast Northern Ireland and set in for western Scotland. There is some uncertainty about where this frontal band will end up on Sunday but it looks to bring more cloud and damp weather in the far north. This could be over Northern Ireland and Scotland on Sunday morning.
