National Parks Week- wet and windy midweek

More sunshine is appearing for Tuesday as the early cloud breaks up. A different picture if you are out and about on Wednesday as wind and rain whistle in from the Atlantic.

It's National Parks week, there are 15 of them, Britain’s Breathing Spaces. The summer weather will be a bit mixed this week if you heading out for a visit.

Tuesday is a calm day with light westerly winds for the hills. Exmoor, Dartmoor, the New Forest, Pembrokeshire, the Brecons and Snowdonia are enjoying bright sunshine and mostly blue skies. This will continue for much of the day until high cloud edges in from the west but overall a fine warm picture. Very different tomorrow.

Other parks have seen a grey start to the day but there will be an improvement this afternoon. The cloud will continue to lift and thin and break allowing brighter skies and sunshine. It is the NE coast which may struggle for longer with low cloud and drizzle. The North York Moors will keep the greyness well into the afternoon.

As the sunny spells appear for the Grampians and the Trossachs there could be one or two sharp showers.

Do remember your sunscreen, even if it is cloudy. The UV values are high and you can still burn on a cloudy day and most areas are going to brighten up today anyway.

Midweek

Wednesday looks wet and windy. Heavy rain will sweep in from the west during the morning with strong and gust winds. The rain will move across Britain during the day with blustery conditions although turning brighter from the west after the main rain band.

This means over an inch of rain could fall over the Welsh hills and mountains, the Moors of the SW, Lake District, the Peaks and the Dales and a soggy spell for Loch Lomond. The Broads and the Downs will see some rain later in the day but be more sheltered being in the east.

The rest of the week, looks breezy with showers from the west. Still strong, warm sunshine but you’ll need your raincoat.
