It's been a decent summer so far particularly towards the South East, but the weather is on the change now to a somewhat cooler, fresher more unsettled type, as Atlantic systems invade from the West. So Wimbledon can expect to see some interruptions today and in the next few days.

This morning sees a mixed bag of weather across the country, in a complex weather situation. Many central, southern and eastern areas are starting fine with some sunshine, but there are already a few sharp showers 'dotted' about chiefly around The Wash and in the far South East. Further showers will develop through the day some heavy giving thunder and local hail, especially in the East. Such is the nature of showers though that a few places will miss them and stay dry.

A slow moving front is giving cloud and patchy mostly light rain through much of northern England, southern Scotland, Wales and the South West, but here too you'll end up with a mixture of a few sunny intervals and scattered showers. Towards Highland and over the Northern Isles, however, it'll be brighter and drier, with similar conditions developing across Northern Ireland after a few showers at first mostly over Down and Armagh. There'll be gusty conditions in some of the heavier showers across England and Wales. Otherwise, winds will be mostly light becoming West or North Westerly later. Although still humid over East Anglia and the South East where the heaviest showers and storms imported from France seem most likely it'll be a cooler day generally across England and Wales. Top temperatures will be 19 to 23C and 25 or 26C locally across the South East, but only 14 to 17C over Scotland and Northern Ireland where it'll be fresher.

Temperatures this afternoon

Further showers are likely into the evening some locally heavy with thunder in the East at first, but these will fade after dark. Skies will break in places for a while in generally light winds before more cloud brings patchy mostly light rain overnight to many western areas and into parts of the Midlands by morning. Southern and some central parts of Scotland together with Northern Ireland will also see a few showers, but further North, it should be mainly dry. Across Highland, clear spells and light winds may allow temperatures to fall as low as a chilly 5C in some rural glens, but 8 to 10C will be a more general minimum. Across England and Wales, temperatures shouldn't fall below 11 to 14C.

The best of the weather on Tuesday should be over northern Scotland where apart from the odd shower in the East, it'll be dry with sunny spells. There'll be a gentle northerly breeze, with afternoon temperatures reaching 14 to 17C after a chilly start. Elsewhere there'll be more cloud with patchy rain across England and Wales joined by some heavier bursts of rain moving into Wales and the South West later. Northern Ireland and central Scotland however, may see somewhat of an improvement from the North later.

Rain and cloud for Tuesday
The disappointing conditions will make it on the cool side generally despite mostly light winds, with top temperatures only 17 to 20C and it'll be cooler than this in the rain.

Apart from the far North, much of England and Wales see some rain during the evening or overnight that'll be heaviest in the South. Meanwhile, most of Scotland and Northern Ireland should see the weather improving, with clearing skies later in the night. It could turn chilly again in some Highland glens, where a mostly moderate North East or Northerly wind will be lighter. Lowest temperatures should be 5 to 9C in the North and 10 to 14C across most of England and Wales.
