June is certainly going out on a dull, soggy note, with Edinburgh seeing record rainfall after a, particularly dry May. A good number of places have also seen no sunshine since Monday. During which other parts have been on the receiving end of a whole average months rainfall.

At least the rain will please the farmers as much of June has been dry and warm. Temperatures have also taken a dramatic tumble with the past few days more like winter in some parts than summer. But as we move into early July, things take somewhat of a turn for the better with a weak ridge moving in from the West later today.

This morning sees much of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern England waking to dull, misty conditions in places with drizzly rain. Across Dyfed and the South West, there are some heavier bursts of rain, but that'll ease through the morning. Elsewhere it's drier but mostly cloudy, with even a few sunny intervals across parts of the Midlands, East Anglia and the South East. Any brightness though could 'trigger' a few sharp showers towards mid-day across the South East, with patchy light rain or drizzle tending to move South into parts of Midlands through the morning.

Radar from earlier this morning

There'll continue to be a few showers into the afternoon across the South and East of Scotland, with Northern Ireland and remaining parts of Scotland although keeping a good deal of cloud becoming mainly dry. Northern England, Wales, much of the Midlands and the South West also keep plenty of cloud, with further patchy drizzle. Elsewhere there's the risk of catching a sharp shower particularly where you see any sunshine, but most parts will be rather cloudy. Winds will become moderate locally fresh northerly making it feel a little chilly in the North, where temperatures get no higher than 13 to 15C. Towards the South East in any brightness temperatures may reach 21 or 22C, but 16 to 19C will probably be a more general maximum.

Temperatures this afternoon
The sharp showers in the South East will slowly fade into the evening. But you may see a few further showers across East Anglia and the South East for a while before a northerly wind begins to decrease overnight. Much of England and Wales, in fact, should become dry with skies breaking, as a ridge moves in from the west. Eastern Scotland should also become mainly dry with a few clear intervals. But further West and over Northern Ireland, there'll be more cloud during the evening and overnight, with some rain moving in later. Here there'll be a westerly wind by morning, but it's not expected to be a particularly cold night across the country, with minimum temperatures mostly in the range 9 to 13C.

Saturday will be a brighter day generally, with some sunshine mainly in central and eastern areas during the morning. Cloud amounts will vary, but, with Atlantic systems bringing some rain to Northern Ireland and Scotland from the West. That'll spread to Wales and other parts of the North and West through the afternoon, but the rain should be mostly light and patchy before clearing from Northern Ireland.

Patchy rain in the northwest on Saturday
There'll be a mostly light or moderate westerly breeze making it somewhat warmer than of late, with top temperatures 14 to 17C in the North and 18 to 22C in the South.

Temperatures on Saturday afternoon
During the evening it's the turn of England and Wales to see some patchy light rain or drizzle, which should have cleared from all but southern areas by morning. Across Scotland and Northern Ireland, apart from a few showers in the West and in the North where a westerly wind will be more noticeable, it'll be a mainly dry night with clear intervals especially in the East. It's not expected to be a cold night though, with temperatures unlikely to fall below 10 to 14C.
