Will it still be sunny and dry this weekend?

This week's high pressure has brought a lot of fine, sunny and dry weather to the UK. Will it still be the same at the weekend, ho ho ho, what do you think?

Will it still be sunny and dry this weekend?

Thurs 10th Sept

So far this week it's been dry, fine for most with quite a lot of sunshine. I know eastern Britain has had more cloud and felt cool at times, that's where I am, in my jumper. However, the farmers must have been pleased with this September settled spell with some warmth in the SE breeze as well. For those stuck in an office looking out the window forlornly at the warm sunny scene, what's it going to do this weekend?

RAIN

N.Ireland is in for a rather wet spell, starting during Friday and continuing off and on into next week

Wales will see rain at times, later Friday, Saturday morning and later on Sunday

For England, SW England is going to see the most wet weather, arriving Friday evening. Pulses then move NE across England during Saturday although SE England looks quite sheltered and should miss most of Saturday’s rain. A scattering of showers for Sunday although SW England gets more persistent rain and there could be heavy rain into Kent Sunday night

Scotland, rain from the south early on Saturday moving north with some heavier and persistent rain expected. Sunday starts drier but with scattered showers moving in from the SW during the day

TEMPERATURES

This week we’ve seen high teens and low twenties Celsius

N.Ireland – a cool weekend 13 to 15C and chilly overnight

Wales – cool Saturday up to 14C, chilly overnight and slightly warmer on Sunday 16 to 18C

England – 19 to 21C for eastern England on Saturday, slowly losing the breeze off the North Sea.14 to 16C further west in the rain. Chilly overnight in the north, Sunday 16 to 19C, feeling okay in the sunshine

Scotland- a cooler day around 15C, chilly overnight, Sunday 13 to 16C

WINDS

N.Ireland finally loses the brisk SE wind which has been around all week as a Westerly sets in for Saturday, However after a bit of a lull mid weekend; the fresh SE winds return later on Sunday

Wales – brisk SE winds veer to fresh/moderate westerlies during Saturday, light overnight before a freshening S wind takes over, strengthening to the southeast to end the weekend. Very windy around Pembrokeshire coasts Sunday afternoon. Windy through the Irish Sea Sunday evening.

England- a blustery SE wind gives way to a brisk West wind on Saturday but lighter overnight. By Sunday afternoon the brisk S or SE winds over southern Britain will be strong for Cornwall, Devon and Dorset coasts.

Scotland- Saturday will be the windy day with a fresh East wind off the North Sea, this eases to a SW wind overnight before the SE winds return to end Sunday. Perhaps just worth watching out for wind forecast updates if you are heading over the Forth bridges Monday morning.
