Half term holiday weather, changes afoot

A week off school for some in England, Wales and Channel Islands, before the countdown to Summer holidays. There has been some fine weather about, especially in the southeast but will it last?

Half term holiday weather, changes afoot

Half term

As half term gets going in earnest after the long weekend, parents will be hoping that the weather will be fine to enable plenty of “just  go and play outside” opportunities .

N.Ireland saw the top UK temperature on Bank Holiday Monday with 19.2 C in Co.Down and parts of Scotland faired quite well with Edinburgh up to 17.4C in warm sunshine. The warmth is fading for N.Britain and N.Ireland now with just one day off but many schools in England, Wales and the Channel Islands continue to have half term holidays this week, so will the weather behave?

Overall, it is getting cooler and more unsettled, sorry. There will still be some warmth about midweek, especially for south-eastern Britain. Temperatures around 16 or 17C which is fine, but perhaps not long lasting water fight weather. I have seen some paddling pools have had an airing already this weekend on Facebook. Even though the air is cooling, the sun remains strong at this time of year. So sun screen is always needed, even if the day starts off a bit cloudy

Pollen
For anyone with a grumpy, sneezing, red eyed child, or even if it is beginning to affect you yourself, there is some good news. Levels will be falling as it turns cooler. Mainly oak with only the beginnings of the grass pollen season. In the north, low by Wednesday. For central and southern parts, moderate levels of pollen will be around for midweek but falling to Low everywhere by Friday. Good news for anyone revising.

Weather

Tuesday, warmest day of the week for England and Wales. Inland 15 to 19C. 21C London
Sunny spells, variable cloud, dry
Cooler NW England, N.Wales, in brisk winds onto north coast of Devon and Cornwall too

Wednesday
Starts fine, but gets breezier through day. Cloud increases with damp weather later for W.Wales and NW England, cooler here. Otherwise dry and fine, still warm in south, 17 to 20C southern/southeast England and East Anglia and Channel Islands

Thursday
Breezy day fine in far south, heavy even thundery showers elsewhere but with bright spells. Noticeably cooler for Wales, N.England, rest of England cooler, but London and SE still holding onto 17C and feeling okay.

Friday
Heavy showers moving through with blustery winds, cooler for all. SE 13 or 14C most around 10 to 12C, not that great for end of May

Saturday improves as showers fade, longest in NE, but still cool

Sunday could start well, with warm sunshine but there is rain forecast to arrive from west. Quite far off at the moment but keep an eye on the forecast if you are travelling at the end of the weekend, could be windy too.

Beyond that?
Can't say about summer holidays at this stage. However, as we start June on Monday, that is the start of meteorological Summer and it does look like next week could be much warmer. That will be right, kids go back to school and the weather improves, Isle of Man have that week off, well timed. Enjoy this week.
