Updated: 30th April 2015 11:20

Update Thurs 30th

More settled, not as cool

The weather is looking a bit drier but with more sunny spells, a bit warmer too. The morning still looks cool which will please the keen runners. There is the risk of rain showers but mostly it will be dry and showers pass by on the moderate SW winds. By lunchtime, any sunny spells will feel warm, you need sunscreen, the sun is strong at this time of year. Morning temperatures will be 9 to 10C but in the afternoon up to 14 or 15C.

Tues 28th

After last weekend's London Marathon, the bank holiday weekend brings the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon on May Day, Monday 4th. There has been a dusting of snow for parts of N.Ireland already this week and a real chill in the air for runners in their last week of training.

The route is the same as in 2014 and starts at the City Hall heading out East and then back again on the Sydenham by-pass. Then west along the Falls Road before a long stretch north over Arthur Bridge. From Gideons Green then a long stretch south to the finish at Ormeau Park. Surprisingly, it is not going to be really warm, no return to the 20 Celsius of last week. Temperatures look to start at 10C for 9am and will rise to 13 or 14C in the sunny spells. There will be rain about too. The forecast is still 6 days off but it looks like a band of rain will head north early morning but showers will follow as a brisk south wind picks up. So that won't help on the final straight, but it is is still a fair way off in weather terms. Any sunshine that does break through is still strong at this time of year so don't forget your sunscreen.

Unsettled and cool
