80mph gales to bash Britain: Flood fears as storms sweep in this week  Express

Weather: Tree-toppling gales to ravage UK, area of low pressure will whip up ferocious gales and mammoth waves  Telegraph

This week is going to bring windy weather and gales for some parts, Scotland particularly. Those winds may bring down a few trees, but as the worse of the winds are forecast for the Western Isles and Shetland, I think their trees will be pretty hardy

As of 1pm on Tues 5th, there are no flood warnings for England and Wales, only 1 low level alert for the River Thame. Also nothing on the 3 day outlook from the Environment Agency. Western Scotland is going to see a lot of rain on Wednesday as the first windy bout arrives. With the rain being heavy and persistent, there could be localised flooding problems affecting rail and roads.

Not sure of the parameters of mammoth waves but there are some very big swells coming into W and N. Scotland, especially midday on Saturday 10th for Shetland.

So Wednesday we’ve got a low centred between Greenland and Iceland but its effects will be felt across the UK with strong S and SW winds during the day.

Then another low centre moves much closer to the Western Isles, bringing a windy Thursday night. Stormy in N and W. Scotland. Then another pulse during Friday day for much of the UK. The far north of Scotland gets hit on Saturday morning (with storm force winds possible) as another low moves across the Norwegian Sea.

So, yes it is going to be windy this week, with gusts making driving conditions difficult at times and there will be knock on affects for ferries and bridges in Scotland and to N.Ireland. The worst of the conditions for the winds are for the Scottish Islands, then Scotland, N.Ireland, N.England and N.Wales around the Irish Sea. For flood risk, again worst for Scotland but nothing unusual, and heavy rain for Cumbria and W.Wales

For details of gust strengths and areas affected. Keep an eye on the Netweather Watch issued today
