Tues 28th October 2014

Western Scotland does expect a fair amount of rain but it seems to have been raining nonstop for NW Scotland for the past week. Finally on Tuesday, the rain is shifting south-eastwards and high pressure will build mid week (briefly) to bring some settled conditions and sunshine. Parts of the Highlands have had Flood warnings and alerts from the Scottish Environment Agency SEPA. During the past week, Highland region has seen around 300mm of rain (12" ). NW SCotland could expect on average near 200mm of rain in the whole of October, so this has been a very wet week.

Many areas are still seeing high river levels, localised flooding and there have been numerous problems on the road, with landslips and trees falling. On Sunday just south of Fort William, near to Ben Nevis there were two landslides on the A82. This means the people in-between the two slips were trapped for hours. For central belt commuters trains have been delayed for Glasgow, Gourock and Greenock due to flooding. Further north a landslide at Garve hit the railway line too. Scotrail are reporting major disruption on the Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh line. A replacement bus service is not currently possible as the landslide affected the A835 with Garve being on the key route between Inverness and Ullapool, where the ferry goes to the Western Isles. Yet again, there was a landslide at the Rest and Be thankful, the A83 being particularly prone here, having already seen 11 landslides in the past 3 years. Alongside Loch Carron there was a large landslide which closed the A890 to all traffic too

As the heaviest rain is moving southwards, there is a landslide in Dumfries and Galloway which is delaying some trains from Glasgow to Carlisle and more disruption is likely today. If you encounter any disruption/delays let us know, comments below
