11th Sept

TS Odile is now off W.Mexico heading N/NW. This is further south than Norbert was but it still sending out large swells, this time for SW Mexico. Nothing at the moment in the Atlantic but the NHC is giving a 70% chance of formation to an area between Cape Verde islands and Lesser Antillies in the mid Atlantic, within 48 hours.

5th Sept

Hurricane Norbert is just near SW Baja California peninsula, so hurricane warning here, and a tropical storm warning for Pacific coast Mexico for wind strength and heavy rain. Swells of 4 to 7 feet high are expected for southern California beaches but not the massive waves which were thrown off by Hurricane Marie earlier in the month. Even with the surfing excitement, there are warnings for coastal areas of rip currents, dangerous waves and these large swells

3rd Sept. TS Dolly is now overland in E.Mexico and bringing heavy rain and some damage in Veracruz. On the west coast, Pacific storm Norbert is heading northwestwards towards the Baja California peninsula with TS warnings already out for La Paz to Santa Fez in W.Mexico. Large swell and dangerous surf are already building and heavy rain is forecast along the coast. Norbert is expected to strengthen to hurricane status by Thursday, as it keeps west of the peninsula, out in the ocean.

2nd Sept

The Atlantic hurricane season runs until November and NOAA have issued an update to their season forecast.  They have raised the likelihood for a below-normal season in the Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook. The update predicts a 70 percent chance of a below-normal season, a 25 percent chance of a near-normal season and only a five percent chance of an above-normal season. Currently we are up to no.4 named storm Tropical Storm Dolly.

Dolly is forecast to make landfall Tuesday night local time with the heavy rainfall being the main worry. Tropical storm force winds are forecast to hit land with Dolly strengthening slightly today (Tues 2nd) but with 3 to 6 " rain forecast, 10" possible, it is flash flooding and landlslides which bring life threatening danger to the mountainous area of eastern Mexico through Wednesday.

Aug 25th

Hurricane Marie in the eastern Pacific is causing large swell for western Mexico and Californian coasts. The surf may be 'up' but there are wavings with the surf of rip currents and dangerous swell.

In the Atlantic is Tropical Storm Cristobal, near the central Bahamas. The turks & Caicos Islands are being warned of 4 to 8" rain and TS conditions. Cristobal is forecast to move away into the Atlantic, NE'wards, probably north of Bermuda as a hurricane. Next will be her progress east and north across the Atlantic.

Tropical Storm Karina is still wandering about near the Central Pacific, well out at sea. She is now being influenced by the two other storms in the eastern Pacific, TS Lowell and just upgraded to a tropical storm Marie, off SW Mexico. Lowell looks like weakening and Marie strengthening to Hurricane status.

In the Atlantic, the National Hurricane Centre of NOAA have put a 60% likelihood of tropical development on an area between the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico as we head into the weekend
