It's been a mild, sunny start to spring in the Alps, and while spring skiing and snowboarding definitely has it's benefits (what's not to like about getting to play in the snow without the cold?), there's still nothing better than a bit of fresh powder, and there's a load of that on the way..
The quick animation below shows what's happening - a cold front heading through from the northwest bringing colder temperatures, and plenty of rain, sleet and snow. The freezing level will initially be up towards 2000m, so rain below 1800m or so, but through Saturday that falls away from the north and west to close in on 1000m by the start of Sunday, and down to 800m during the day Sunday - with showers developing in behind the front from the west as well.

After the weekend the snow clears away but the colder air hangs about, so t-shirt skiing and snowboarding will be off the agenda for a bit, but there should be some sunny skies to enjoy the powder with a few more snow top-ups looking pretty likely.
