There will be some wet and blustery weather about over the next few days with a cooler start for September. As a series of low pressures whizz past between Iceland and northern Scotland there will be trailing weather fronts, mainly for the north-western half of the UK and a more significant cold front on Saturday crossing the whole country. By the end of the weekend, high pressure will have built-in from the SW and so southern Britain should see settled, calmer weather for those heading back to school.
For Friday and Saturday, there are Rain warnings from the UK Met Office for Scotland and Northern Ireland. The Highlands look very wet. The western half of Ireland has yellow rain warnings for Friday and Friday night.

With the frontal rain band away to the NW, south-eastern Britain will have a fine and bright day. It will be dry. For Wales, there will be more cloud with rain into Gwynedd and more cloud for northern England with outbreaks of rain for Cumbria, Lancashire and over the Pennines. The rain will wave and pulsate over Ireland and Scotland through the day, but it does just keep on feeding up from the SW and only by Saturday will it begin to pivot over Britain.
The southeast could see 24 or 25C again today, the low 20sC for Grampian in the SW wind. These fresh winds will pick up this afternoon through the Irish Sea with gusts around 50mph for the high ground of northern England and SE Scotland. This will also add to the tricky driving conditions for the Friday evening rush.
During Saturday as the front pivots north-south across the UK, the winds veer dramatically from SW to NW. The cooler fresher air will already be over Northern Ireland and northern Scotland by Saturday morning with clearer skies. Here sharp showers will appear along with bright or sunny spells. The band of rain will bring a wet start to the weekend for parts of Britain but ahead of it, there will still be warm sunny weather.
Gradually the cloud and some damp weather spill over the Midlands, Yorkshire and southern England but the SE of England and East Anglia should have a fine day with temperatures into the mid 20sC. The fading front finally crossing SE Britain on Saturday evening.
Saturday night will be a lot cooler if you are camping. There will be a lot of fair dry weather but still with some showers blowing in on the westerly winds.
Sunday looks rather cool. Breezy for southern Britain with more sharp showers for Northern Ireland, Wales, N. England and Scotland. These will be scattered so some areas missing them but there could be some hefty downpours so keep an eye on the radar.
