Week Ahead Weather: Mixed with sunshine and showers

Sunshine and showers are the weather theme again today, and in fact, will be for much of the upcoming week.

We have slack low pressure nearby at the moment, with one centre ending the weekend filling over Scotland, and another sat over central Europe. Although pressure will rise from the west during Tuesday, it falls again beyond midweek, as the central European low moves north into the North Sea and Scandinavia.

Today, most people will avoid the showers, with some warm sunny spells on offer away from them. But, where you do catch one, they're liable to be heavy, slow moving and perhaps also thundery. Temperatures could make it into the low twenties in the southeast. But typically it'll be 16-19c in southern, central and eastern parts, further north and west 13-16c will be the high.

Many of the showers will die out overnight, but a fair amount of low cloud will roll in, making for a cloudy start on Monday. The sunshine should break through during the morning though, and then the process repeats with more showers building.

Scattered showers on Monday

Just like today, the majority won't catch a downpour, but if you do, you could get a good soaking. Temperatures will generally be on a par with Sunday.

Into Tuesday, many of the showers are likely to be in the north and east of the country. For central, southern and western parts, it stays mostly bright or sunny, and just the odd shower.

Wednesday keeps the west drier again, but once more there will be some sharp showers affecting the eastern half of the country.

Thursday and Friday will see less settled weather spreading though, with showers or perhaps even one or two longer spells of rain affecting many parts.

Looking ahead to the bank holiday weekend, the mixed weather does seem likely to continue. So, there is set to be some rain about but interspersed with some brighter, sunnier and warmer spells.
