Plenty of rain on the way for the middle of the week. There is the risk of localised flooding.
March has already brought high gusts, Storm Freya, wind and rain and even snow. It's been more cloudy, feeling damp and chilly at times but still with bright, strong sunshine, hinting that spring is on its way. After February's warmth, clear blue skies and sunshine it has been quite a turn around and there is more rain on the way.
We need the rain, but perhaps not too much all in one go. The UK Met Office has issued two yellow warnings for heavy rain; one for southern Wales and another for Devon and Cornwall. These run from Tuesday evening until about 9am Wednesday morning. Other areas will see plenty of rain too.
Rain will affect much of south Wales and southwest England from late Tuesday afternoon, overnight into Wednesday morning before clearing. 20-30 mm of rain is likely to fall quite widely whilst over the higher ground of south Wales and southwest England, such as the Brecon Beacons and Dartmoor 40-50 mm is expected, with most exposed sites perhaps seeing 60 mm. The 24-hour totals for rainfall show the continuing rain as an incoming large area of low pressure looks set to dominate the UK weather midweek.
It will be blustery around the low today.
The main area of rain covered Wales and most of England overnight, into Northern Ireland too. Set now over the southern half of Scotland with snow on the hills inland and the rest of Northern Ireland with some improvement for England and Wales during Wednesday morning. However, there will be hefty, thundery showers mixed with any brighter spells. As the frontal band moves northwards through Scotland there will be more snow on the hills and mountains.

There are flood warnings this morning for Lyme Regis and the River Axe, in Devon and Dorset.
Colder by Thursday as the wind turns to the NW, the low centre shifts off into the North Sea and the weather turns wintry over northern hills.
