Low pressure will be close by to the west in the coming week, which means most will see some rain at times and also it will be rather mild.

Week Ahead Weather: Mild & Changeable, With Rain At Times

Issued: 4th November 2018 10:20

A deep area of low pressure to the northwest of the British Isles, the remnants of ex-Hurricane Oscar, will continue to move away to the north today. The trailing weather front from this system, which brought a lot of rain to western Scotland yesterday, will tend to sit diagonally through England today, though weaker now, bringing largely cloudy skies and some rain to England and Wales today. The new week will be rather mild for early November, but becoming increasingly unsettled, with rain for all at times. Monday is looking largely dry and bright across England and Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland will be cloudier with some rain. Tuesday looks to turn wet and windy across the west, drier, brighter and very mild in the east, the rain in the west then clear east overnight into Wednesday, then generally the rest of the week is looking changeable, with spells of rain at times, and windy too.

Today

For now, Sunday has started on a cloudy note with some patchy rain in a zone from central southern England through to Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, elsewhere where it is generally bright or sunny this morning, though there are some showers across the far west of Wales and Scotland.

The band of cloud and pulses of rain across central and eastern parts of England will gradually drift back west across parts of the Midlands, east Wales and SW England, the rain turning heavy and persistent across the far southwest. SE England staying mostly dry and bright or sunny, while northern and western Wales, northern England, N. Ireland and Scotland stay mostly dry and bright or sunny too, though there could still be a few showers affecting the far northwest and some western coastal areas.

Feeling pleasant in the sun, highs reaching 11-13C generally, perhaps 14C across southern England, above average for the time of year. A southerly breeze for most, windy across the far northwest, with gales for the Western Isles this morning.

Tonight

For many this evening away from the far west is should stay dry for fireworks displays, outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, will continue to spread north overnight across Devon and Cornwall, Ireland and eventually Northern Ireland along with SW Scotland, with cloudy skies and patchy rain affecting Wales and northern England too. But elsewhere it will dry with clear spells, though low cloud, mist or hill fog will roll in across the southeast of England and East Anglia. A mild night, minimum temperatures of 7-12C.

Monday

The northwest and west of Britain will be generally cloudy on Monday, any early rain from overnight across SW England and Wales clearing away, though outbreaks of rain affecting Ireland, N. Ireland, northern and western parts of Scotland through the morning, before fizzling out in the afternoon. Elsewhere, largely fine, best of the sunshine across eastern Scotland and eastern England. Very mild day – temperatures reaching 14-16C across England and Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland 10-13C.

Tuesday

Perhaps a few showers running north across central and eastern England early on Tuesday and eastern Scotland through the morning, otherwise a largely dry and bright or sunny day across many eastern areas. Cloudier towards the west again, with outbreaks of heavy and persistent rain spreading in across Ireland, then SW England, Wales, NW England and western Scotland into the afternoon. A brisk southerly breeze will mean a very mild day again, temperatures ranging from 12-14C in the north to 14-17C in the south.

Rest of the week

Continuing mild through the rest of the week, but increasingly unsettled and windy off the Atlantic. A generally cloudy day on Wednesday – with outbreaks of rain spreading east across most parts, rain becoming heavy and persistent across the west and northwest – as a low pressure centre moves in here.

Generally unsettled but mild Wednesday to Friday

Breezy or windy on Thursday and Friday, with further spells of rain moving through, though exact detail and timing of this rain elusive for now, some of the rain could be heavy and persistent – especially in the west.
