Hot again today, into low 30s C. Then intense heat easing a touch for a few days

Another hot, sunny day for much of England and Wales. Bit more cloud to start with more Scotland and Northern Ireland but still fine away from far NW. Slight easing of intense heat this week.

For those into the football, it has been glorious to enjoy it in warmth and fine weather as England won again.  Wimbledon is going well, just the odd shower to start with but otherwise, it’s sunny, dry and maybe a touch too hot. How do they play in that? No long-term interruptions to play causing headaches for organisers or television schedules. For Northern Ireland and Scotland (and a few other areas) where school holidays are already underway, this weather has been unbelievable. A few more weeks before most schools in England and Wales break up, like the football; can it last?

If you were looking at the medium/longer range charts there does seem to be a change for the NW half of the UK in the week starting Mon 16th July. Cooler and more unsettled for the NW half but still heat showing in the SE half and beyond that week, maybe the high pressure building back in, so all is not lost. This interruption looks to come from a low pressure nearer to Iceland affecting Northern Ireland and Scotland but maybe into Wales and England. However, trying to shift an existing high pressure is hard work and often the high just stays, so we’ll wait a while to see if there is a mid/late July blip.

Plenty of sunshine today over Wales and most of England. There is more cloud to start Sunday for the far north of England, Northern Ireland and much of Scotland., There is a weak weather front here, which has approached from the NW and is bringing a bit of damp weather to the far NW of Scotland

The visible satellite picture shows the extent of the cloud from around 7:30-8: 00 am this morning. The band of thicker frontal cloud and damp weather will move onto the NW Highlands today.

Central and southern Scotland and Northern Ireland should see the cloud thin and break today with sunny spells over Northern Ireland too. For the rest of England and also Wales it will be another cracking summer's day with some fair weather cloud building for eastern and northern England, light winds and rising temperatures.

Southern England or the West Country could see into the low thirties today 20 to 32C looks likely. Other coastal areas will pick up a sea breeze.

Rest of the week

If you are suffering from the intense heat and humidity, this week won’t be as hot. Still very warm into the mid-twenties but not pushing thirty. The high is still with us overall but there will be more cloud about, dampness for Scotland and then more chance of showers inland for England and Wales later in the working week as the temperatures begin to creep up again.

There will be more of a fresh northerly breeze on Tuesday, especially along North Sea coasts. A light easterly breeze then remains with the risk of showers on Thursday and Friday for Ireland and western Britain, still missing most places but worth keeping an eye on the radar to see how they develop.

Overall it is still a dry, fine picture with warmth and sunshine. A bit more cloud about this week, a thin scattering of western showers later on and a lull from the most intense heat after today. Have a great Sunday.
