High pressure continuing to dominate this weekend and next week, keeping most dry and sunny, just a few showers in the southwest.
Friday brought the fifth day in a row of temperatures above 30C, Porthmadog in NW Wales yet again the hottest place in the UK, reaching 32.5C, the day before reaching 33C, the hottest temperature of the year so far.
There will be plenty more sunshine and heat to come over the weekend, the highest temperatures on Saturday towards western areas – where we could see over 30C. Then the heat tending to transfer to southern areas on Sunday – as we import hot and humid air from the near continent, some spots in the southeast may be close to the hottest day of the year so far, reaching 32-33C. The only rain this weekend may be seen across the southwest – where some thundery showers will move in from the south and perhaps the NW of Scotland.
Next week the dry, settled, very warm or hot weather looks set to continue across most areas, with no rain likely for most areas, as high pressure remains in control, so it looks like the UK will see an exceptional spell of dry and hot weather.
For now, like recent mornings, mist and low cloud has rolled inland from the east overnight across central and eastern areas of the UK. These grey skies will break up and thin through the morning to join western areas to prolonged spells of strong sunshine from late morning through the afternoon. Most areas remaining dry, fine, very warm or hot today, the exception will be across the far SW England where we may see some heavy showers later, perhaps thundery across Cornwall.
Temperatures widely reaching the mid to high 20s Celsius away from the far northwest and like recent days eastern coastal areas – where there will be an onshore breeze. Across central southern and western England and Wales we could see temperatures creep up to or over 30C.
A balmy evening will lead into a mostly dry night with clear spells, though mist and low cloud will roll back in across the northeast and cloudier across NW Scotland with a few showers, along with a risk of thundery showers affecting the far SW of England at times. Generally cooler across the north tonight with temperatures dropping to 9-13C, warm and muggy night across the south – with temperatures perhaps not dropping lower than 16C in towns and cities.
Perhaps some mist and low cloud to start the day across the northeast, before burning away to lead into another dry, sunny and very warm or hot day. A risk of thundery downpours moving up across SW England, Wales and perhaps the West Midlands through the day and also an Atlantic front edging in across NW Scotland could bring some showery rain here, but otherwise dry with lengthy spells of sunshine elsewhere. Hot across England, Wales and southern Scotland – where temperatures will widely be in the high 20s Celsius, perhaps reaching 30-32C across central and western areas of England along with west Wales, increasingly humid in the south too.
Staying dry and sunny on Monday and Tuesday, warm generally, very warm or hot and humid in the south, temperatures reaching the low 20s Celsius in the north, mid to high 20s in the south. Still a risk of thundery showers across the southwest, but these will eventually ease by Tuesday.
High pressure remaining in control across the UK mid to late week, so staying dry and fine with plenty of sunshine though perhaps not quite as hot as earlier in the week – as a northeasterly breeze develops. Highest temperatures across the south and west – where they will reach the mid 20s Celsius, low twenties or high teens in the north. Just a small risk of an isolated thundery heavy shower developing.
