Storms yesterday brought torrential downpours, large hail, shelf clouds, and 20,000 lightning strikes.
Although many of us enjoyed a fairly quiet weather day on Saturday, parts of central and eastern England were hit by some really severe thunderstorms.
There were reports of large hail (photo here), and some incredible photos of shelf clouds, such as the one which Madeinholt shared on the Netweather community.
Over 22,000 strikes were recorded across the day, which makes it one of the busiest lightning days for some time, although some way behind the highest number we've recorded which was on the 28th June 2012 with over 64,000.
With the lightning, there was also plenty of rainfall, with absolutely torrential downpours creating problems on the roads, and localised flooding. Eastern England saw the wettest conditions, with 50mm+ falling in some places, over a very short period of time.
Today has brought more sharp showers for some, but nothing on the scale of yesterday and the overall pattern during the coming days is a much more settled one.
