There will be plenty of dry weather this weekend although a troublesome weather front could bring showery bits to the southwest. Our air won't be coming from the same direction .
As you may have heard this spring warmth is not going to last for the Bank Holiday weekend. We will be back to cool air with nippy nights, and reliant on sunny spells to lift our temperatures. Those values will dip from the mid to high 20sC back to the mid-teens. The peak of the heat will be on Thursday with fresher conditions already reaching Northern Ireland and Scotland that day. Temperatures will fall away, lasting another day in southern England on Friday as we no longer have a feed of hot air from France and Spain.
The high pressure which has steered the heat up from the south, and brought clear skies with sunshine, will drift away over southern Europe. Low pressure west of Portugal will gradually throw its fronts northwards through France leaving a warm front lurking in the English Channel by Saturday.
Low pressure near Iceland will throw a cold front over northern parts of the UK and then continue eastwards to Scandaiva. As high pressure builds over the Atlantic out west a more northerly flow will pick up between the High and the Scandi-low. That will be a cooling influence by Bank Holiday Monday.
Saturday looks mostly dry with sunny spells. There will be more cloud early on for southwestern and southeastern England along the Channel coasts from the warm front. Currently, it looks like the main rain will stay offshore. With an east to northerly breeze a few showery bits could reach the West Country, maybe drifting north towards the M4 corridor by Saturday afternoon. Just something to keep mind. The cooler northerly wind will bring showers over northern Scotland for a time. Many areas will stay fine and bright, and see sunshine which will feel warm but the air will be different. Temperature inland and in the sunshine should be in the high teens and low 20sC, although only 14 or 15C under cloudy skies exposed to the wind. If you are hill walking this weekend do bear in mind that it could feel chilly.
North Sea coasts will feel cool by Sunday with a north to northeasterly breeze. This will bring a few showers onshore as the day goes on. Early on there could still be cloud and showery outbreaks of rain for SW England from the trailing weather front. Elsewhere, another fair day with warm sunny spells. Temperatures will be around 12 to 18C and Sunday night looks chilly.
The cloud from the North Sea will increase overnight into Bank Holiday Monday. There will still be bright or sunny spells inland and for western counties. There will be a very light breeze for western Scotland and Northern Ireland but still this cool wind from the North Sea over England. Temperatures will mostly be in the mid-teens although a few sheltered spots could see 17C in the sunshine.
There will be a lot of dry, bright weather this weekend, although the frontal band in the south, southwest will bring some rain. The real warmth of this week will be over but we are back to more seasonal weather. Any sheltered sunny areas will still feel warm, it will just be cooler in the evenings.
