Just a few showers interrupting the fair UK weather

For most parts, it will be fine and dry. Just the odd shower today and then clusters for Thursday into Friday morning. A settled few days as the high pulls away to Norway.

Wednesday will be dry for many parts of the UK with just a few light showers. The cloud will fill in more through this morning but it remains bright. With light winds, temperatures remain in the high teens to low twenties for the middle of the week. It’s the kind of British summer weather that can go unnoticed. Or if you are on holiday already you think ‘oh well, it’s fine, we can get out but might need to pack a jacket/umbrella just in case.’  It’s not very warm nor full sunshine but could be a day when the sunshine appears and it does feel pleasantly warm for a while but also there could be a passing light shower so the raincoat goes on briefly.

High pressure is over the UK, bringing steady conditions but keeping a fair amount of cloud and average feel to the air over us. The high pressure will be leaving us and heading across to Scandinavia. On Thursday there will be a light easterly flow, by Friday a southerly wind and at the weekend a freshening westerly that will force more showers our way off the Atlantic. None of this will bring a return to the extreme heat of last week.

UK weather temperatures 16 to 22C Weds

Although the grass pollen season for 2022 is coming to a close (just a few more days in the north of Britain) there are other pollens and spores in the air which could be causing irritation. High fungal spore levels and moderate weed pollen, such as nettle and mugwort

“A range of allergenic spore types will be airborne this week as we are now entering peak spore season, including Alternaria, Cladosporium, Didymella and other types that are emitted during warm, humid nights and some penicillium” Worcester Uni.

Air pollution is low today but could move to moderate levels for England and Wales over the next few days as the wind direction veers.

UK rain

Tonight, there will be a few more showers across central Britain and the Irish Sea, edging up through northern England. Clusters will still be around for Thursday morning, just along the Scottish border and brushing Co. Down and Co. Antrim. There could be some sharp downpours through the day. Again, a scattering of showers, with Wales and the southern Uplands looking prone as well as NW England and the Pennines. Fine elsewhere although slightly warmer inland for England. North Sea coasts will have the easterly breeze off the sea.

UK rain and drought

Friday looks warmer still inland as the winds turn to a southerly and the last of those showers fade from NE England. This is in the descending air ahead of an incoming Atlantic front. The first of many for this weekend bringing showery rain from the west. If you have Friday evening plans, there will be rain with more of a breeze for the far northwest of the UK but still fine weather and warmth for most. Warmest for southern inland Britain. The regular weekend UK forecast will be out this afternoon.
