Heatwave conditions in the week ahead across parts of the UK, but the heat will ebb and flow.
With the jet stream north of our shores, central and southern parts, in particular, have been dry and very warm due to an extension across Britain of the Azores high. Further north, you've not been quite so lucky where there's been more cloud, breeze, and some rain, mainly over the North and West of Scotland. Although cooler in the north, we've seen temperatures into the mid to high twenties Celsius across parts of central, southern and eastern England, where we're set for a heatwave into the coming week.
This is because high pressure will continue to dominate with a 'cut-off' high on Monday and Tuesday, bringing hot, humid air up from France before somewhat cooler, fresher conditions move down from the north. But it'll continue mostly fine and dry as a new anticyclone quickly establishes itself.
So little joy for the farmers and gardeners in need of rain in what is fast becoming a drought situation for the southern half of Britain. However, a cold front on Tuesday will bring showers from the North West but 'fizzles out' as it comes, with little if any rain expected across most of England and Wales. It stays dry and becomes very warm or hot again towards next weekend.
For most, it'll be fine and clear in primarily light winds after a lovely barbecue-friendly summer evening. Some mist and a few fog patches form towards dawn, but these'll be short-lived. Lowest temperatures 11 to 16C.
Perhaps turning hazy later, otherwise, another glorious high summer's day. So sun hats and cream at the ready once more. Afternoon sea breezes again keep most beaches fresher. Also cooler in the far North and West, where a southerly wind freshens. Top temperatures a sizzling 27 to 32C for England and Wales and 21 to 25C for East Scotland and Northern Ireland. Showers move into Scotland and Northern Ireland from the North West overnight.
A fresher 14 to 20C over Scotland and Northern Ireland, but dry here with sunny spells developing. Cloud and a few light showers move into northern England and North Wales but elsewhere, expect another dry, very hot, humid day with periods of albeit more hazy sunshine. Temperatures may get as high as 33 or 34C towards the South East but 25 to 31C more generally. Staying dry overnight, but maybe the odd rogue sharp shower in the East and South.
More cloud over England and Wales for a time, but sunny spells also and mainly staying dry in light breezes. Becoming somewhat cooler and fresher from the North West, with top temperatures down to the low to mid-twenties Celsius. Sunny spells also across Scotland and Northern Ireland, with a West wind here bringing a few showers to the north in a cooler 16 to 21C.
Becoming finer and very warm again as a new anticyclone develops across the country. This'll bring increasing amounts of sunshine again in mostly light winds, with temperatures into the mid to high twenties Celsius category once more across England and Wales. Becoming breezier and more unsettled however across the North and West of Scotland and Northern Ireland, perhaps with some rain.
