The main feature later this week, and throughout the weekend, is a large, deep low pressure in the north Atlantic. This will pass to the northwest of the UK, taking its time, and bringing windy weather.

It will be windiest in the northwest, with gales, even severe gales possible for the Western Isles. For southeast and southern Britain, the winds won’t be as strong with high pressure trying to build in from the west.

The low pressure will drive in clusters of heavy showers with focus on western Scotland.

The temperatures stay in a similar lane this week. Mid to high teens and low twenties. So, 14C to 22C. As it has been in June, if you are in sheltered sunshine, it will feel pleasantly warm, remember your sunscreen in the middle of the day or if you are out for a while. Under any thicker cloud, in the wind or as a shower passes by it will feel cooler and cool to start the day and overnight.

The showers for western Scotland really get going through Friday afternoon and evening and continue into Saturday morning. Northern Ireland and a few parts of western Britain will see a scattering of showers with a fresh SW wind around the Irish Sea and strong southerly winds around The Minch. Some of the showers will be thundery with hail. There will be gusts of wind over 50mph for the Western Isles and west coast overnight.

By Saturday morning SE Britain will still have light winds but north Wales, northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland will all be windy. SW gales for the Western Isles lunchtime into the afternoon and possibly the Northern Isles later on Saturday. Much of the UK remains dry with warm sunshine. SE Britain from Hampshire, to Kent to Lincolnshire, should reach 20 to 23C. Pollen levels will be very high as the grass season kicks off.

Down into single figures overnight as the showers continue. It will be windy in the north but with very light winds for southern Britain.

The showers continue on Sunday from Cumbria up the west coast of Scotland and a scattering for Northern Ireland. It will be windy but not as windy as on Saturday, with lighter showers. The showers fade during Sunday afternoon so an improving picture for western areas.
