Monday saw a return of summery conditions across much of England and Wales, with 29.6C at Charlwood in West Sussex the top temperature for mainland UK, 31C in Jersey. Today will be another very warm or hot day with plenty of sunshine again for much of England, with high pressure to the east and low pressure to the west drawing up warm air from the south. Weather fronts will bring more in the way of cloud and some rain for Scotland, N. Ireland, Wales and SW England. A change from mid-week, although it will be dry for many, high pressure will reposition to the north of Britain while a cold front sweeps south, introducing cooler conditions from the north. Though Wednesday will still be very warm across the south, all parts cooler Thursday and Friday.

Today

For now, a dry and sunny morning for many across England away from the far north, though with some mist patches in places first thing. After a cloudy start this morning with the odd shower in the northwest, the far north of England joining the rest of England with increasing sunshine. Becoming very warm in the sunshine, temperatures widely reaching the low to mid-twenties, hot again across SE England – where temperatures could reach 30-31C.

Scotland, N. Ireland, Wales and SW England will see more in the way of cloud through today, some outbreaks of rain or showers this morning moving northeast, rain locally heavy across Scotland and N. Ireland. Drier and sunnier conditions moving in across southern Scotland through the afternoon, however northern Scotland, N. Ireland, Wales and SW England remaining often cloudy with the odd shower. Cooler across these northern and western – with temperatures reaching the high teens to low twenties Celsius.

Tonight

Much of England and Wales dry with clear spells overnight, though the odd shower can’t be ruled out across SE England later in the night. Warm too, temperatures falling now lower than the mid-teens in the south. A weak cold front slipping south across Scotland will bring a band of cloud south overnight with some patchy light rain or drizzle, cooler and clearer conditions following across northern Scotland.

Wednesday

Cold front will continue to move south from Scotland across N. Ireland, northern England and on towards the Midlands, Lincolnshire and Norfolk, a band of cloud and some drizzle along the front. Sunnier but cooler and fresher conditions following the front across Scotland and N. Ireland, temperatures following the front reaching 14-17C at best. South of the front across southern England and south Wales – a sunny and very warm day, temperatures reaching 23-27C.

Thursday

Weak cold front will clear south from southern England Thursday morning, so all parts of Britain in a cooler and fresher airmass, with temperatures generally close to the seasonal norm. But with high pressure in control, it will be a dry and sunny day for most. Temperatures reaching 17-20C.

Friday

Friday will see a weakening cold front move southeast across Scotland and N. Ireland, which will introduce cloudier skies and some patchy light rain or drizzle. But for much of England and Wales it will be another dry and fine day with sunny spells, though sunshine perhaps turning hazy or cloud thickening across southern England.

Weekend

High pressure looks like it will sat close to northern Britain through the weekend, so for many it will dry and settled throughout the weekend. Best of the sunshine on Saturday perhaps, southern areas perhaps turning cloudier from the south on Sunday, with a chance of showers pushing up from France, though some uncertainty over this. Becoming breezy or windy across the south.
