Fresher end to this week but hotting up for next

A cooler fresher feel this morning and it stays that way until Sunday. Then warmth spreads in with temperatures really rising early next week. Heavy rain for western Scotland

It is much cooler and fresher this morning although with plenty of sunshine thanks to the overnight clear skies. There will be another surge of warmth, even heat for the start of next week as temperatures head back into the 20sC, even low 30sC possible around London. For many, it looks dry and fine although western Scotland will be very wet.

High pressure is building in from the west, edging a low pressure towards Iceland today which lingers bringing blustery weather on Friday and at the weekend. There will be strong winds and gales in the far north as showers and bands of rain continue to head in for the far NW of the UK.

Another Atlantic low heads in on Sunday and it is within this system with high pressure away to the south and SE we begin to see warmer air pulled up over the UK.

Today

Today will be a fine, bright day with sunshine for many although there is some low cloud about to start the day, over SW Scotland and Cumbria, inland Wales and the Midlands into Yorkshire in particular. There will be a few showers for Northern Ireland and inland Scotland but a scattering for NW Scotland today brought in on a moderate SW wind. For the rest of the UK, winds will be light thanks to the high pressure but temperatures will be down on the early part of this week. Between 15 and 21C with a fresher, less humid feel to the air.

Another cool night with showery rain setting in for the Western Isles and far NW of Scotland as the south-westerly winds pick up

Friday

Much of England and Wales will have a fine, calm start to Friday with a little mist about but bright and light winds. The rain band, an occluding cold front will bring heavy and persistent rain to NW Scotland which quickly spreads to Strathclyde and Co Tyrone then more of Northern Ireland and central & western Scotland during the morning. For a time, it will be wet and blustery although there will be clearer skies following behind the front. In the fine weather to the south temperatures will reach high teens, just into low 20sC once more with a moderate westerly breeze but staying light for southern England. Birmingham and Manchester up to 18C. Later afternoon the rain band should have cleared CO., Down with just a few lingering showers and will be over the Isle of Man and the far north of England, more sheltered and drier in the NE. This line continues to edge southwards towards Lancashire and the Dales during Friday evening reaching north Wales too.

The Weekend

Saturday could start off grey with some dampness for SW England and English Channel coasts as the last of the frontal cloud fades during the morning. For many, it will be yet another fair day, with warm sunny spells but a coolness in the shade or breeze. The northern half of the UK keeps the blustery westerly winds with a scattering of heavy, even thundery showers affecting the north of Northern Ireland and western Scotland including Glasgow. Later in the day, the Atlantic front begins to head in, bringing heavy rain and strengthening winds, backing as it arrives for Northern Ireland and western Scotland. Also windy through the Irish Sea on Saturday night.

A conveyor of rain then waves in from the Atlantic. It is forecast to graze Northern Ireland and soak western and central Scotland with rain also reaching Cumbria. These waving fronts can move about so worth considering into Sunday.

Warmer air begins to spread up over the UK. Away from the rain in the north, temperatures into the high teens and for England and inland Wales, up into the 20sC with 24 or 25C possible.

By Monday the frontal bands should have shifted northwards, moving the rain and a southerly breeze takes over as the warmth builds.

Monday and Tuesday should be very warm with temperatures throughout the UK lifting, 31C is possible.
