The hot spell is well underway and will continue through Thursday, but thunderstorms will begin to break out during the day. Fresher weather will arrive to all parts by the weekend.
Oh it's hot. Temperatures have tipped into the low 30sC for the middle of the week with 32.5C at London Heathrow. For much of the UK, there has been blue skies and sunshine with heat and humidity. A fading weather front has kept cloud over Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland.
Thursday will bring more heat and sunshine but with the very warm air spreading over the UK and more places reaching 30C. The risk of thunderstorms increases and the UK Met Office have issued Thunderstorm warnings from Thursday afternoon until early on Saturday morning.
The risk starts for Thursday for inland Scotland, mainly the NW Highlands. By the evening the risk of thunderstorms will be over SW England and the Channel Islands, also for Northern Ireland and gradually over Wales during the night. These storms bring the risk of torrential rain and lightning.
By Friday morning clusters of these storms will be moving over southern Britain, closer to London.
The line of heavy showers and potential thunderstorms continue to move eastwards and spread northwards during Friday with the warm sunshine lifting the temperatures, especially for eastern Britain. Further west it becomes fresher.
The risk of heavy downpours, thunderstorms and even hail with the lightning continues into Friday evening for northern Britain. The heaviest showers clear away NE leaving a fresher feeling weekend but still with plenty of showers and an unsettled view.
