That's nearly all folks - low pressure taking control to bring an end to the UK's summery weather

This is it, we're into the last dregs of our summery spell of weather now, as low pressure will be taking control of the UK's weather again this week.

Already this morning there are some showers across the northern half Scotland, we've also got a weak front moving south through northern England and later into the north Midlands and north Wales, bringing more cloud and perhaps some patchy light rain later. It'll be just to the south of that where there are liable to be some scattered but heavy, maybe thundery showers developing from lunchtime onwards.

In the meantime though, there is still going to be a good deal of warm sunshine on offer today, especially in southern and central areas - it's just those central areas may have to keep an eye out for showers later on. Temperatures today will quite varied north to south. In southern and central England, the high teens to low twenties will be the peak. Head north into Northern England and Southern Scotland and the mid-teens will be about your lot, and further north still, Northern Scotland will reach a breezy, fresh 8-12c.

Weather and temperatures this afternoon

Tonight, the showers in central parts will die away but those in Scotland will continue. The front will carry on moving south through into the Midlands and later Southern England, with a few bits and pieces of rain on it. Monday then brings a day of sunshine and showers across the northern half of the UK and a generally more cloudy picture further south, with some patchy, showery rain in places too. There'll still be a bit of warmth leftover in the far south, with the high teens possible if there are some sunnier spells, but elsewhere 10-15c will be about it - with the warmest end of that range inland and further south.

Into Tuesday and we'll have a small area of low pressure to keep an eye on in the south. It's likely to bring some showery rain up into southern and central England during the day - although there's some uncertainty over how exactly this will play out. Away from that, there'll be a good amount of cloud, keeping it cool, and there'll be a scattering of showers.

Rain moving northeast on Wednesday

Wednesday is likely to see a more sizeable low starting to make its presence felt, initially with a weather front moving from southwest to northeast bringing a spell of rain and blustery winds with it. From there on in, we're likely to see low pressures nearby through the remainder of the week and into next weekend. That'll mean showers or longer spells of rain at times, with a few sunnier, warmer slots in between them.
