Seven things for a hot, summer's weekend

It's going to be warm and sunny this weekend, hot and humid for some. BBQ, ice cream, a forest walk or camping - get out there!

1. BBQ- Do better than just burnt burgers/sausages.

Instagram will be full of amazing ideas but as this sunny weekend has been advertised to a while, you could do a bit of preparation, rather than scrabbling about for the last bashed rolls at the supermarket.

2. Have a trial run putting up your #Glastonbury Tent

Did you pack it all away last time, or have forgotten about that broken pole, small rip in the roof? Is it new to you, 2nd hand, borrowed and worth trying to put it up with YouTube instructions. It will be dry and sunny, have a practice, then you can look all professional on Wednesday/Friday. More in the Glastonbury thread of the Netweather Forum

3. Successfully sit on a Deck Chair

Deck chairs on the beach, deck chairs in the park, that's summer. But there is the whole getting into one, sitting down gracefully or athletically, will it work or will you end up in a pickle. That's if it is already put up, trying to erect one yourself is like Krypton Factor. Once in, stay a while, gaze at the clouds, listen to the birds or the waves, chill out. Until a wasp pesters you, or you want a drink, or your book is just too far away to reach.

4. Icecream or Ice lolly

On you go! I think I'll have...strawberry.

5. Sunburn - Avoid turning into a lobster

It's tempting, this could be the only hot, sunny week we see (that's not a forecast). Must go and get some colour in your cheeks before back to work on Monday. Or you just forget about that bit on your neck or foot, or miss the tops of your ears/head. The UV levels will be high, people will get burnt. Slap on the sunscreen and reapply, remember your hat and sunglasses, drink plenty of fluids and alcohol doesn't count. Avoid the midday sun if possible. A night of heat stroke, burn pain and manky blisters will just ruin your weekend. And it will still be hot and sunny for England and Wales on Sunday.

6. Forests - A cooling Walk- Build a Den, Go for a Bike ride

You've just missed #DenDay but escaping the heat and strong sunshine with a woodland walk could be just the ticket. The Forestry Commission have issued "The Den Commandments" - see what they've done there. And it's still #UKBikeWeek, so head off-road and try to find lingering puddles from this week's earlier rain.

7. A bit of Gardening

If you have already been putting in the work, this will be a great time to enjoy your beautiful outdoor space, have a meal outside or just a cuppa and appreciate it all. If you've been meaning to tidy up and do a bit of re-potting, there is nothing like spending a peaceful evening in the garden, in the sultry end of day heat. There will be plenty of watering to do too.  Check out our new Netweather Gardening blog.
