Half term weather - More sunshine?

What a start to half term! Winter sunshine, it's not raining although it is chilly but for February that's okay. Will it last? Well, not quite, but it's not all doom and gloom.

Half Term outlook- Middle of Feb 2016

If you do have this week off school, here’s the weather prospects around the UK, after a glorious Monday. 

S.England (East Anglia, SE and SW England, Home Counties and West Country)

Tuesday- Cold bright start, fog in places with frost. Staying fine but with breeze picking up, feeling milder 7 C

Weds- blustery morning but winds easing. Managing to stay dry but with more cloud for SE and East Anglia. Damp across most parts with some heavier rain in the SW

Thursday – Tricky mix of rain/sleet (possible hill snow) on a grey day in SE and East Anglia. Drier and sunny for SW as band of damp weather fades over SE. Feeling cold in breeze.

Friday- chilly start but milder air later as SW wind picks up. Fine and bright

N.England (Midlands, NE and NW England, Lincs and Yorks.)

Tuesday- Chilly, fine bright start with frost. Increasing cloud in the far north and NW with rain later in the day for Cumbria and Irish Sea coasts. Winds picking up, fresh to strong SW winds. Temps 5 or 6C

Weds- winds easing, colder air. Cloudy and damp with heavier rain in the west, wintry over the hills with sleet as rain moves southwards during the day

Thursday – rain and sleet clearing SE. Risk of snow for high ground for a time Peaks, Moors early on improving with sunny spells, still cold

Friday- chilly start but milder air later as SW wind picks up. Fine and bright

Wales

Tuesday- Fine, sunny start with frost and a chill. Staying fine for most but cloud and wind increase in the west in the afternoon. Wet by evening for NW and west with strong SW winds along coasts. 6 or 7C

Weds- winds easing and colder air. Cloudy and damp with heavier bursts of rain from the SW, wintry over hills.

Thursday – colder but bright and fine

Friday- chilly start but milder air later as SW breeze picks up. Fine and bright

N.Ireland

Tuesday- Turning damp and grey with patchy rain, heavier in the afternoon. Very windy from SW. Temps 6 or 7C

Weds- colder air but lighter winds. Drying up and becoming brighter

Thursday – Mostly fine and bright but cold, just a few rain/sleet showers

Friday- turning blustery and damp once more, milder later

Scotland

Tuesday – Fine start, especially in the east. Becoming very wet in the west, risk of localised flooding in SW. Very windy, SW gales for coasts and Islands, gusts 50-70mph. Temps 4 or 5C

Weds-  colder air but lighter winds. Bright spells once rain and sleet clears SE. snow showers for the NW Highlands

Thurs – bright, fine and cold

Friday- Blustery, fair in the east, rain in the west
